Ive noticed recently that a significant part of my prayer isn't spoken or my lips don't move rather. I speak to God within my head or spirit. The bible does say confess your sins but I almost never confess them audibly. Is this wrong? Doesn't feel wrong but I was thinking about it not to long ago.

I have had countless prayers answered by praying the exact way you are which lets me clearly know that God is listening to those prayers. Although I have been searching the scriptures trying to find a verse to back that up, and I have not found a scripture that clearly discusses not praying aloud. There are a few scriptures I'll let you read over and let you get what you can out of them. Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Ps 55:17 Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.
Both of these scriptures seem to say that it would be alright to pray aloud or in you heart. The important thing is to mean what you pray. Remember Christ actually sweat blood when He prayed. Also remember the outline prayer of how to pray. In Matthew 6:9 Jesus tells us to pray in this MANNER. In verse 7 He tells us not to pray in vain repetitions. Repetitious prayer are not from the heart. God wants you to walk with Him in order to have a close relationship with Him and COMPLETELY depend on God.

Prayers are not in words...

Yes there are different types of prayers:-1. Vocal prayers consist
in words they can be of thanksgiving and praise, they can be of contritions and petitions.
2. Mental prayers consist in without any words, they can be meditation and contemplation. So each one can pray the way one is inspired to do so...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this approach, how ever there is a more excellent way. A better way.

The better way is to speak in an audible voice. Our God is a speaking God. In the beginning "God said", He spoke out the words of creation. The Psalmist said "I will call upon the Lord" There are countless examples of speaking out to God in the scripture. Calling upon His Name.

When the disciples asked Jesus "Lord teach us to pray" Jesus said "When ye pray say............" 'say' Another reason to speak out when praying is because it gives victory over the enemy. Paticularly when speaking in tongues. When we speak out in tongues the bible say that we speak 'mysteries' 'secrets' unto God.

I notice in other 'faiths' they do not speak out. The Muslim bows down to the ground but he does not speak. He has nothing to say never having known salvation.

I speak out to God as I go about my business every day. I am in constant communion with Him.

Hi Stephen,

I disagree with you on 2 points. Firstly, I do not think praying out loud is a better way. it is one of the ways to pray and it has it's own unique purpose. Praying quietly also has it's own unique purpose. So we cannot say one way is better tan the other.

"For the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts." 1Chronicles 28:9

God is not moved by what we say with our mouths but what motivates us in our hearts because what you say with your mouth can be contrary to how you feel. GOD looks at your motives because those you cannot hide from HIM.

The second point I disagree with is when you say muslims bow to the ground but do not speak. Again, this is a type of prayer that they pray but not the only way. They do pray audibly sometimes. Each type has different purposes.

Prayer is a personal thing between you and GOD and should not be limited to a certain type. Some people pray loudly as a sign of praise or of declaration. Praying silently can be a prayer of worship or a quiet supplication to GOD that is private.
