I was recently listening to a preacher on youtube, who I was enjoying very much, but as time went on he started calling gay people "queers", as if to call them a bad name. I was a little taken back by this as I have always thought hate the sin not the sinner. I do not like a watered down gospel, but to attack sinners by calling them names seems very poor judgement for a preacher.

Would you agree or do you have well the truth is is the truth mentality and thinks its ok??

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated

In my generation, "queer" didn't always mean gay. It just meant "unusual" or "un-natural".
There is a scene in a movie where a soldier is dying, and the soldier asks if a stray dog that
started following him around could be buried with him. Not next to him in another grave
close by, but in the same grave. One of the other soldiers says they would have to come back
and dig up the grave and then put the dog in, that is... if the dog was still hanging around them
when he died. The soldier says just kill him now so that he can be buried with me.

The other soldier says... "what a queer thing to say".

Having said that... I also have heard the word "queer" used derogatorily against gays.
Sometimes it's difficult to know if someone is talking about the person, or the sin.

Or what of the scripture, which uses the word, "peculiar" with regard to believers?

"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:" I Peter 2:9

To me the word, "gay" is perhaps worse than "queer" but both bring to my mind something that is twisted from what God would like for it to be. I know the carnal world, [and in a measure also the so-called Christian world] look for that which is "politically" correct rather than that which is correct in the eyes of God.

If we are really Christian [followers of Christ], let us look for what it that God wants us to see, rather than what any man wants us to see. Sometimes the two may coincide, but that is not frequent these days, is it?

Greetings @Dave M

Queer is a derogatory term pinned to gay people.

Homosexuality is an abomination to the Lord...and this should never be watered down.

However, a preacher needs to be careful that he too doesn't slip into the way of the world and start name calling. This is not proper behaviour and does not glorify the Lord...nor give a good testimony to the seeking soul.

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
James 3:17

I had a similar experience; same word in reference to gay folks used by a preacher. At first, I also wondered, is this slander? Then I recalled that I have had several gay friends, and a gay brother, who in fact refer to themselves and other gay people "queers." The particular preacher I was listening too justified himself using this same reasoning. "Queer" is a modern and frequently used description of a gay person in today's society. Think of the television show (I'm not sure if it's still around this should show how much I watch tv anymore) "Queer eye for the straight guy." Many gay people today embrace being identified as "queer." There are also words like lesbian, gay, transgender, transsexual, and bisexual....sometimes those words can be used derogatorily as well as descriptively. I think it is all a matter of context. As for the preacher, time will tell if he is hateful or compassionate. (Many people who come to love the LORD grow to hate things they once rarely thought of. Sins that once never registered in a person's mind as being "sinful" or "evil" become more and more apparent as they study the Word and develop a relationship with God). There is a huge difference between hating the sin, and hating the sinner. I am sure than many Christians struggle with this in their walk with the LORD. Even though it is not in regards to the same sin, I have also struggled with separating the sin I hate from the sinner I'm praying for. (This has applied to myself on more than one occasion).

Be Christ like
The Holy Ghost abiding within us is what separates us from this world.
So when will us "believers" stop catering to the world.
God uses those "queer, gay, lesbians, transgenders, bisexuals, homosexuals, even hetersexuals" as a witness to advance His "believers".
When will "believers" stop looking at the vessel and speak to the unclean spirit infecting the vessel?
God is able to raise up vessels unto honor, and unto dishonor.

God is a Spirit. Are we spiritual beings when we pertain the the ideologies of this world and not God?
We are "spirit". Not Jew nor Greek, not bond nor free, not male nor female......
We are spirit. What spirit is using you?

I am not sexual, or a female, or an American. I AM SPIRIT. Praise God.
The only ONE I want holding me is my Lord. The only ONE I trust is my Lord. I belong to HIM. I am a married woman, I belong to my Lord, and pertain to the things of my Lord.
It is written, a married woman seeks to please her husband, an unmarried woman seeks to please her God.
Are we pleasing God by calling them names?
Or do we please God when we are a "light" unto those lost?

All praise, glory and honor be unto God. Amen

Pray for this preacher; seems he may be preaching to appease the itching ears of men.
I mean, was he reproving, reproaching, or rebuking a "queer" spirit?
Was his preaching exalting God?
Was it edifying the church?

NO! He was merely gossiping behind their back and most likely would not even speak the same to their face.
Wonder if he knew what spirit was using him, as he led the sheep astray?
Beware of wolves in sheep clothing; ye shall know them by their fruits.

All praise, glory and honor be unto God. Amen

Hi Dave M I do not understand what the purpose is to look to isolate people with a sin? Lets look at an example brother shall we? John 8:1-11 here the scribes and Pharisees brought in a woman caught in the act of adultery, then they spoke this to Jesus verse 4,then they looked to tell Jesus the result which should come from such a sin.

Now what did Jesus say or DO first?? He wrote first! verse 6 Now they were looking for Jesus to call her what they called her!verse 7 Jesus then wrote again, not speaking! It of course not clear what Jesus did write, and it is not clear if Jesus wrote the same thing in the sand twice. But whatever Jesus did write in the sand caused them to leave, some think he may have written Isaiah 61:1 the reason why many believe he wrote this, is because the Word says verse 9 and when they heard this, but again, no one can be for certain he wrote this.

Jesus then addressed the woman,NOT calling her by her sin,but rather asking her where are the people who condemn you? She replied no one.verse 11 Jesus answered, neither do I condemn you, go, and sin no more. The point!! As believers what is the purpose to highlight the sin rather then the blood which covers the sin? If we consider this in our own life, rather then point( Matt 7:3-5) then we are following in our Masters footsteps rather then looking to provide our own footsteps! Hence a great lesson I have learned when speaking to people who are by others condemned.( Rom 8:1)

Now before some of you get all in a huff about pointing out sin as being bad,LOL SIN is bad! Sin is bondage, and since sin is, why would any of us look to wrap that bondage upon another? That is the point I am looking for us to all consider. Blessing all! And thanks Dave for that reminder as well!!
