Hello Everyone!

I'm Monica, I'm taking a Broadcasting class this semester so I have to write a paper and My topic is
"How does Christian Programs like Joel Osteen attract non Christian Tv audiences?"
Basically, I'm writing about How Christian tv shows out rate prime time tv shows. (which is awesome!):shade:

Did you know that 7million people watch Joel Osteen on Sunday mornings and that out rates,
Game of thrones and The walking Dead, Which are two huge tv shows.

My question is "Why do you think people tune in to watch Joel Osteen?" & "Why do you think People like him?"

Same thing with the History Channels Bible Series, "Why Do you think People watched it?"

If you want to know why I'm writing this paper, well it's because in everything that I do, I like to put Christ first
even in my school work.

So what do you think?? be honest.
@Chad

Joel Osteen is a false teacher, Word of Faith, Prosperity, Preacher. Your time would be better spent on a genuine Born Again Pastor's who knows the BIBLE. For instance Dr. Charles Stanley, Dr. Michael Youssef. Dr. John MacArthur, Dr. Ravi Zacharias, Dr. David Jeremiah. These men are worthy of your time, and are genuine men who seek to preach the Bible in truth, honesty and not out of greed or kingdom building.

As fro a woman worthy of your study you would be blessed to study Mrs. Kay Arthur of Precepts For Life.

These people are well worth your time and you would gain a better undertaking of what real ministry is.

Mr. Osteen is not awesome from a conservative Christians standpoint. Some would say his sand on homosexuality, and Jesus Christ not being the only way to heaven, as being unorthodox in his theology.

People want to be told a "feel good" sermon than one that is based on biblical truth and They like him because the bible foretold about this day and age:

2 timothy 4:3-4
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Have you ever heard him talk? Rev. Oprah is more knowledgeable than Rev. Osteen. Those people sure know how to kick in the money to buy the football palace they did. Satan knows how to provide for his best spokesman. Heck when you look at those who live by Satan's greedy handbook that twists Scripture, those false preacher / preachers like Benney Hinn, and the like make huge money.

Those preachers who re honest and really are ministering deserve to be openly praised. But we don't hear much abot then.

Indeed I have. I have heard with my own ears this man preach prosperity. I used to have to watch him preach because when I worked at a mission there was a couple that worked there and the woman was an x-member of whatever church he preaches at and she wanted to watch it. So I have actually heard him preach a whole bunch.
I have decided to turn completely away from any prosperity or faith doctrines as I used to attend a church where this was taught and one night there was a guest pastor who actually said "the anointing of ten fold return was on him and if you give $1000 tonight by next friday you will have $10,000 in the bank." There was three offerings taken up that night also, one for the church which was accompanied by the usual sunday tithe sermon, then we got another sermon on tithing from the regular pastor on giving more to the guest pastor. It was obvious he was worried the congregation wouldnt tithe enough and he would be embarrassed. then after the second offering, obviously it wasnt "enough" so the guest pastor made another sermon about tithing and it was nothing more than getting you pumped up to give so you would recieve back out of selfish desire. and then boy every one jumped up grabbed their wallets and check books and gave even more. needless to say the sermon the guest speaker was to preach was much shorter than his sermon on tithing and the anointing of ten fold return. to make this even worse there was some deacons standing by the exit and would not allow you to leave. My blood was boiling and the only thing I could do to keep my cool was just sit there. I have never went back to that church since nor will I go to any church that preaches prosperity.
it reminds me of a sermon titled ten shekels and a shirt by Paris Reidhead. its a good one. I am sure you can find it on the internets.

Howdy brothers and sisters, haven't been here in a while so this was a good one to start back with.
i am all about sharing with others the false proffets wandering around our TV's, radio, and internet. It really doesn't surprise me however. The bible says it i believe ti that settles it.
newt, out!!!!!!!!!!!

eddieb: I guess most can tell I am a pretty upfront conservative Bible Jesus follower. I have seen and heard more than I like to remember I have walked short distances with a lot of different kinds of people who said they knew Jesus. I have had people tell me Jesus told them to tell me al sort's of things. Because i's pretty clear I have some very serious health and physical problems I have attracted some "healers" who were sure my lack of faith kept me the way I was, and still am. Praise the Lord He walks and talks beside me everyday. I fully understand Romans 8:29 more and more everyday the Lord allows me to be on this journey here on earth.

I too have seen more than a couple of offerings taken one after other. I asked more than once that if speaking in tongues was a genuine gift like some say, to show me from the Bible where I was lacking. I can say with deep sorrow every person I have had anything to with, who was involved with the WORD of FAITH, CHAISMATIC gifts, turned out be involved in some kind of sexual immorality. I am not saying that all people in those movements are involved in sexual immorality, just the ones I personally was close with.

I have watched TBN, and some other "Christian TV stations" put on some of the most rank bizarre unorthodox anti- Biblical teaching / preaching that anyone who had read the Gospels would have changed the channel. Most people who support these false teachers / preachers are ether new babies in Christ or just ignorant of what the Bible really says. Unless they brake free from these greedy thieves, their faith is headed for a shipwreck.

I highly recommend a book STRNGE FIRE by John MacArthur. I have found it to be worth the read, and gives solid food for thought and great history behind these movements. Joel is mentioned as well. Blessings

After today when Rev. Pat Robertson, founder of his 700 Club came out and said he accepted evolution as a possible way God created the word and man, ad told Ken Hamm that e was all wrong, I thought you might want to interview Rev. Roberson too. Here is a man who uses "Words of Knowledge" to heal people. Rev. Robertson as was a supporter of the famous Rev. Oral Roberts that used so many ways to convict followers to save him from the Lord taking him home. Oral came up with the story if followers did not give one million by a certain date God was gong to remove him from the earth to heaven. The letter Oral sent people was one of advertisers best and most expensive campaign's they had ever done, up to that point. I knew a person who was a printer who ran the notebook like papers into the presses. The finished papers looked like each one was hand written. Many people give when they had nothing left to live on.

These type of "ministers" need to be really looked into to see how genuinely they are like Christ.

Reminds me of Job's friends. Hang in there. by His stripes we were(past tense) healed.

Joel is a very charismatic personality. People like him. They like what he has to say. It tickles their ears. ( 2 Tim 4:3; )
God wants to make all Christians rich.
However Joel has said that he doesn't think homosexuality is a sin, he has also said that he believes "Mormons are just as much Christians as anyone else."
Finally he has said, "Jesus isn't the only way to God, there may be other ways."

There are many youtube interviews with Joel Osteen about the subjects above.
