John 9:4

We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work.

And when this night comes and we cannot work, what is it we will do?

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.... Eph. 6:13

My normal vision and hearing are deteriorating and have eroded a good bit already, but God has given me a new spiritual vision, and a new spiritual hearing that grows also as well. My hearing, when I am focused inward toward my thoughts and actions and speaking with the Lord, I hear the constant background sound of the night, you all know the sound you hear in the forest at night when you are camping, insects galore making thier night music for all to hear. Even as I write this, as I am now focused on the spirit, I hear it, and its just a half hour past noon. I still hear the normal noises around me, but that background sound of the night is there as well. I have seen a hearing doctor and they say that nothing is abnormally bad, but gave me a hearing aid, and that hasnt helped at all. Recently the Lord told me in the Spirit that the "night" is upon us and my new hearing hears it. And the verse I listed in John chapter nine came to me by the Spirit as what I am hearing. I just wondered if "we cannot work", assuming that its spiritual work, what is it we should do. I cannot see myself not allowing the Spirit to move me and respond, so I am just curious what limitation is now before us. I dont really expect most to believe most of this, but I was hoping there were people who love to see the meaning behind every jot and dash in scripture, and see what you all had to say about this verse.

Brad, as I read your post this scripture came to me

Romans 13:11-14

And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

When the night comes for each of us our body will seep in death 1 Corinthians 15:51, but our spirit will go to Jesus and get a new spiritual body 2Corinthians 5:1-8. Then we will rest on beds and praise God till we come back to earth with Jesus to Armageddon Psalm 149:4-9.

Thank you all for your input. I appreciate the responses.

Jari... watching and praying is a certain true thing, but my spirit tells me thats not what I am being taught now.

RevBrad.. I am a capable warrior for the Lord and agree with your assesment of our attitude as well as our lifestyle in this day
but that being said, it still doesnt tell me what "work we cannot do" as in what GOOD work we cannot do that Jesus
spoke of.
Eric.. My spirit doesnt agree with your insight toward what the "night" is, although that can be one aspect of night, as in death,
but in this case, I know its speaking of something else, just not sure what. Perhaps you can focus on What Good work we
cannot do that Jesus spoke of. I think this would shed some light on the matter.

Again, I thank you all for your input, and if you can think of anything else, or your spirit tells you something concerning it, pls
do share.

Brad,

Read the verses around verse 4. Jesus was speaking of his coming death and return to heaven. While he was here he was the light of the world. Now we are the light, for he has given us the ministry of reconciliation. We are his ambassadors while we are awake but when we die we can no longer work for our night has come too. See 2 Corinthians 5:19-20

The light is Christ, those who walk in darkness know
not the light. If you know Christ you walk by the light,
the day, the Truth.

Isaiah 9
2 The people who walk in darkness will see a great light;
Those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them.

Psalm 27

27 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?

John 1

9 There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.

Rest, tis what most people do after working all day. I am learning to rest in the work Christ has done on my behalf, trusting in that and that alone makes me acceptable to God.
