have anyone here been a Catholic and then became a Christian if so did you have it hard to release yourself from the tradition of the Catholic Church ?

Greetings @OAKLINE

I haven't been in this situation, however,

With the acceptance of the gift of Salvation and a new life led by the indwelling Holy Spirit.....the false practices of the catholic church will become very apparent to the new believer. Just like any other area in life that needs change...His love sheds light and truth on everything.

The entrance of Thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
Psalm 119:130

@OAKLINE

When you learn something by rote. It is very difficult indeed to forget, but a little easier to place the theological falseness that you were exposed to behind. Lighting candles for intercession, praying to Mary, doing the Hail Mary, praying in front of statues etc. Certain things become habits, and like any behavior require much effort to break from.

So what is this baggage that you're carrying forward with you into this new life in the Body of Christ?
However, in general find scripture that supports your new found life in Jesus and frees you from the bondage you are experiencing.

Before I became born again by water and Spirit - I was a very committed practicing Roman Catholic involved also with St. Vincent de Paul's Society charity work.
I always knew that my Catholic doctrine and the priesthood structure never matched what I read in the scriptures myself, but I only knew Catholicism.
One day I was challenged about my life and faith simply by reading a short testimony to being born again by a former hippy [alternative lifestyle] woman named Vicki.
I put Jesus to the test and I guess I needed for the Lord to prove that the gospel as written in the New Testament was really true and still applicable for me today.
Along with repentance and seeking the Lord, I was baptized by full immersion [in the Bible this is the only way] and confessed my faith in Christ Jesus as my
Lord and Saviour.
Thirty-one days later, on the 1st December 1996 I received the Holy Spirit [baptized in the Holy Ghost] and spoke forth in new tongues as the Gospel of Mark, Acts
and the epistles said I would.
I was instantly that very Sunday afternoon healed from smoking cigarettes and marijuana, alcohol, and injecting hard drugs. No withdrawal symptoms, just healed
and set free there and then.
There was no loyalty to continue with my Catholic traditions and I broke away simply by the joy of receiving the Spirit of truth and the ability to pray in the Spirit.
When I read the scriptures they were opened up to me with clarity and understanding.
My prayer life grew and grew and brought about numerous miracles and healings, and provision.

It was Jesus who set me free from religion and liturgy rites that had no power to change one's life for the better. I was able to leave my RC practices because I
was rejoicing in the Spirit and in being a true worshipper [John 4]. My Catholic parish had nothing in comparison to offer.

Here is a testimony from a young woman in Liberia, Africa - Ame Nyeadeh Zee - who shares her joy of discovering the true gospel that has power and
miracles, as opposed to her previous churches that offered none of this.

Thanks for that so did become a baptist?

NO - here in Australia churches that follow the apostolic gospel from Acts to Jude are called Pentecostal.

That's very interesting. So you don't follow the gospels? The teachings of Jesus specifically?

In the US, Pentecostal churches are those that practice the charismatic gifts of the Spirit
(1 Cor 12, and Acts 2). ... i.e. speaking in tongues, prophesy, etc...

Yes, of course we believe and obey the gospels - with special reference to John, and Mark 16:15-20, along with all the scriptures
(Acts - Jude) that clearly outline the need for and evidence of Holy Spirit baptism as written...

Jude:
20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

At our Assembly meetings we operate the voice gifts (1Corinthians 14) tongues, interpretation and prophecy.
Two to three people max, each taking turns and done decently and in order as commanded.
