Ok,so this may seem a bit weird to you guys. I'm very obsessed with sports (as most guys over here are) I have season tickets to the Calgary Vipers and I go to alot of Flames games as well. I sometimes even miss church and a church event for games (since I have already bought my tickets) my family thinks im crazy because of my obsession with sports but yea, what do you guys think?

i think a christian life should be characterized by balance. We have a lot of directions we can spend our time and resources and that's fine because God created us this way - to be varied in personality and passions. I like sports too, i used to play handball at a pretty high level... But i think that nothing should go too far. Our only obsession should be God, not music, family, friends, sports, reading... The last sermon i heard at church was about balance. In Titus chapter 2, Paul advises every category of people mentioned there to have balance (in Romanian this word is used for every category, i don't know about English). I can’t see Jesus as a man that was obsessed by anything else than God – not even fellowship, giving to the poor, teaching or working signs, although he was very good at them and loved doing them. He was a balanced man. So, I’m not saying that sport is wrong – no way (christianity would be pretty dull if it were) – just that too much of anything could lead to sin…

hope to have been of help

god bless

sorry it turned out too long!

Hey!
U know, this post u wrote above really sounds like me (about 5 months ago though…)
I mean, as a Lebanese champion in athletics and as a record holder, I am asked 2 go 2 championships almost every weekend, they r usually held on Sunday mornings, and that doesn’t really leave me an other choice other than choosing between church and my sport life! (And by the way I started running 4 fun and that was only 2 years ago…)
But since I’m only 15, and still live w/ my parents, they tried 2 make the 2 of these happen 2 me, c, they told me 2 put God 1st in my life, nd everything will go just perfect.
So, what happens on Sundays is: we spend time w/ God, have our own quite time and read a devotional all as a fam, ask him to help me do my best, then we go to the championship, and as soon as I finish, we drive to church and attend the rest of it.
See just as sebi said, too much of anything will become harmful 2 u, cuz u’ll b worshiping an other god that Jesus, without even realizing it (that is 1 of the devil’s tactics…I read about that in 1 of CS Lewis’s books)
I think it’s just great that u r asking about it!
God bless u and may u discover God’s plan and balance 4 ur life.
Ps: God is using me through sports 2 tell people about Him and 2 lift His name higher; I know that He will use ur way of life too!
