The Bible is the best book one can read. Hands down.

So I was wondering if anyone has stumbled across any books that help with the spiritual journey (like a self-help, self-discovery, or the like), fiction books with Jesus at the center, Christian romances, and anything that attracts the eye, gives you a new perspective and makes you think, or is tantalizingly intriguing.
Something that has encouraged and/or affected your faith life and walk with Jesus.
Or given you something to challenge you, to think about. Food for thought - rather books for thought. ;)

Just anything really. :)

And the title, author, and a short description would be really helpful. Maybe your opinion of the book as well.

Thanks and God bless!

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105

@tirapet

Aside from the Bible which is indeed our wonderful lamp and guide, I have found a number of books very encouraging on the Christian path

One that comes to mind:

Living Simply by Fiona Castle (2006)

It is published by Kingsway Publications and they write the following:

When the author went on a life-changing visit to Peru, she met people who lived in poverty but were rich in love.
They knew the value of friendship, fellowship and community.
When Fiona came home, she resolved to live more simply, more wholeheartedly for God, and so she carried out a life audit:
on physical clutter - the possessions she had accumulated
on emotional clutter - her baggage of hopes, fears, and relationships
on spiritual clutter - her attitudes to God and the world
Join the author on a friendly tour around your spiritual home, and find out what's important in your life?

It really did challenge me to look around at 'my' possessions, home and clutter and how they can affect ones relationship with the Lord

Changing the subject.....I recently read this quotation:
Let the Bible, the whole Bible and nothing but the Bible be the rule of our faith and practice. (J C Ryle)

Be careful therefore to choose authors and subject matter that is in agreement with the Bible
Anything else is not worth looking at

For Thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.
Psalm 18:28

Hi tirapet,

"The Pilgrim's Progress" by John Bunyan. It's been a great help to me personally to at least find and understand what's happening to my spiritual journey and where I am already in my walk with the Lord Jesus. Though it is an allegory as you read through the pages, you can find easily the Scriptural references (not quoted really) of the truths the author wants to convey to his reader (that is if you are very familiar with your Bible). Very interesting Sis and a great one to read .

For a little glimpse about the book and the central character from the back cover:

"I am come from the City of Destruction, and am going to Mount Zion...
My name is now Christian but my name at first was Graceless"

"John Bunyan's classic "The Pilgrim's Progress" is an allegory of the Christian life. Making his way to the Celestial City (Mt. Zion), the pilgrim Christian traverses the Hill Difficulty, the Valley of the Shadow of Death, Vanity Fair and the Enchanted Ground. Along his way he encountered characters such as Christiana, Hopeful, Mr. Worldly Wiseman, Mercy and Giant Despair who lives in Doubting Castle.

Hi @tirapet

A Heart Like Jesus by Max Lucado is great. I think it sums down it the core if how we should live, act, think like Jesus. I'm halfway through, amazing book nonetheless. It's pretty small and very relatable.

Highly recommended!
