"Reader" claims to truly follow Christ

So I know this lady that comes into my place of work. She claims to follow Christ but also reads to some people. She also uses cards but not tarot cards or any occult items.

She said when she was 3 she was given this "gift" from God. She would be able to know psychically when someone would die, if someone would get or is sick and other types of psychic phenomena. Her information can be given to her just by being present with someone- cards arent necessary.
She told me this was something given to her that she did not ask for and cost her childhood as it was very difficult for her to deal with such a thing.

Tonight we were talking about the augury, soothsayer's, and supposed psychics that the bible warned about. She said that she does not fall into that category as she doesn't use her gift for profit or personal gain.

She also acknowledged that the psychics out there are all under satanic control and are ungodly.

What really has me confused about her is that she has very strong faith in Christ.
She always prays. She prays for people that she reads for and always prays from protection from Satan. Jesus is central to her life.

She was also taking to a younger co-worker and kept emphasizing that Satan will and does attack us and that we are living in the end times.

Remember, she claims that this was given to her from God and uses it for no ill will. She also told me of some people she was able to help from demonic attacks via prayer and requests for prayer from friends and churches.

Now this lady was speaking much truth and I dont doubt her sincerity. But, what does the scripture say about what she does?

What do you guys think?

As soon as I was reading this, the story of Bar Jesus came to mind, his real name was Elymas. Acts 13:6-12 Many will cover there tracks by knowing some Bible, even the devil knew the Word! Matt 4:5-6 a card reading of any kind,is not from the Lord, but many fool believers, by knowing some Bible, and by claming Jesus gave them there gift,as you know, the gifts from God require no cards, but rather the very Word of God! Ask her the following to test the spirit in her!! Do you believe Jesus is God? John 14:9,John 10:30,John 8:58. if she says yes, then ask her,to show you any chapter and verse, where cards were ever used,in the Bible to help another in? I suspect, she is not being led by the Spirit of God. I do not judge,as I have not met her,but if I did, I would know, for the gifts of descerment are in me from the Lord.I came out of very bad occult oppression,I know the power of both worlds in the spirit realm. She probably would say something like well Jesus is the Son of God,but being God depends upon the Fathers will, which as I have shown you is very clear, Jesus is GOD! No disciple or believer, ever used cards!! When bar Jesus walked did Paul have to take cards out before he knew?? LOL Nor do we!! JESUS!! IS!! LORD!! hope this helps!! blessing to you! Col 2:6-10 As we have recieved Christ Jesus,so walk in HIM!!... amen!

Cherubpuff, you would have to determin if what she does draws a person's attention to her or to God.

I too have a 'gift' (not in any way the same as this woman's one) but i don't go around telling people of it. I rarely mention it but i do use it for the glory of God. If i were to mention it a lot, i know that the attention would be on ME immediately, and i don't want that.

I would say, be careful. I have known a couple of women who attent the spiritualist church, who know their bible and were very sincere about their love for God and the additional things they were practicing, but it didn't make them godly, just because they were sincere.

Observe, give this woman a wide berth, observe again, keep your distance, be friendly, ask questions, check the things you hear against God's word and with other experienced believers and above all guard your heart.

She may be a genuine believer, inexperienced and with an unfortunate way of explaining her gift, or she might be deceived and you could become entangled.

I hope some of what i have shared, helps.

Hi Diamondlight,
I would have to agree with you with all you have said. But the thing that seems to trouble me is the fact that she claims to have had this since childhood.

Why would God allow this to enter her life at such an early age if it were possibly going to lead her to destruction?

Brighthouse,

She does not use it to bring attention to herself. Whenever I talk to h er she always put Christ before herself.

She doesn't try to sell me anything and she surely won't get me to ask her for any type of reading.

If in fact she is and has been manipulated through demonic forces all her life, then I really feel sorry for her.

Mixing Tarot cards with God's gifts? Sounds more like demonic activity to me. This woman is greatly deceived.
Let's see how the Apostle Paul handled something like this:
Act 16:16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
Act 16:17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
Act 16:18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

A word of warning, binding those lying spirits is one thing casting them out without her being ready is another and her problem could come back much worse. If you are to help this person your heart must be in tune with the Holy Spirit hearing and obeying His every lead.

I have to agree with Bonaerges. This "gift" is not from GOD and the Scripture posted clearly shows this.

Pray for her and ask the elders to lay hands on her. That's what I think is necessary.

Thanks for posting the verses and your input.

It's difficult to grasp what exactly is running through her mind. She sincerely believes she is being led by God and trying to convince her otherwise will be hard.

I asked her what makes her think that what she does is different or justifiable than that what is preached in the bible. Her response was somewhat of a vague "my gift comes from God" type of response.

I'll give her the verses you guys posted and try to talk some sense into her. But the truth of the matter is that this lady has been into it for so long that my words wont convince her otherwise.

I'll pray and post back next time I see her.
