"It is well to remember that reading books about the Bible is a very different thing to searching the Word for oneself."

--H A Ironside (American Bible teacher, pastor, and author. Authored more than 60 volumes including highly regarded commentaries on the books of the Bible. For 18 of his 50 years of ministry, he was pastor at Moody Memorial Church in Chicago).

I really like H. A. Ironside quotes. They are awesome!

"God is looking for broken men who have judged themselves in the light of the cross of Christ. When He wants anything done, He takes up men who have come to the end of themselves, whose confidence is not in themselves, but in God." - H.A. Ironside

Shalom!

Ironside's quote on reading books or the Bible is so very true.....it may seem easier to substitute the Bible with a devotional or a commentary written by a Godly Christian person......but that should only be secondary to reading the Bible itself.....the true, beautiful, infallible inspired word of God.

Other Ironside quotes:

Christ is a substitute for everything, but nothing is a substitute for Christ.

No one ever lost out by excessive devotion to Christ.

How true! Nothing can even begin to compare with the Bible itself, no matter how good we think it is. While those other books may be a good supplement or study resource, they are made to compliment the Bible...not take it's place.
