Do you feel like it is okay for christians to read secular books like murder mysteries or spy novels and stuff like that? I am usually reading two books a month at least. Sometimes fiction and sometimes non-fiction. It seems more interesting than what is on television. I rarely watch television anymore except for sports or news. I also read the Bible daily.

It is one of those grey areas. I think it depends on both the books and the person reading them.
Read 1 Corinthians 8
To me it reads that there are certain things that are not sin for those who do not feel convicted, but may be a stumbling block for others. In this there is freedom, but also danger of causing a brother to stumble.

I am 17 and since the day I was born I have been reading. Reading is just what I like to do. I don't read God based books only. No where in the bible does it say "THOU SHALT NOT READ OTHER BOOKS OTHER THAN MY WORD". It's 100% fine. It all depends on what you're reading. If it's 50 Shades of Grey I don't know. That's between you and God. If it's The Hunger Games I see no problem in it and I'm pretty sure God wouldn't either.

I don't read murder mysteries or spy novels myself...
I do read books other than the Bible but I make sure I read the Bible first over all the other books.

Someone tried to get me to read Hunger Games but I found it boring. I would not read that kind of book, or 50 shades either.

If in doubt, ask God. Non-fiction is fine, I think use your discernment. I read a lot of gardening books as I love gardening.
I don't watch tv either, and it wouldn't bother me if I didn't have one.
