RENEWING YOUR MIND.,(OVERCOME DEPRESSION)

You need to get your mind off your problems. This will take practice and diligence.

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Rom. 8:6

That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; Eph. 4:22-23

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Rom. 12:2

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Phil. 4:8

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah 26:3

(listening too and or reading the New Testiment is a great help in this.)Most of all stop fellowshiping with your problems by staying focused on them instead of God.)(If you will let JESUS heal you he will)

Yeshua, just to point out although it is very important to renew your mind, sometimes with depression there is a clinical cause, and medication is required alongside renewing the mind. People who suffer from depression can often be made to feel worse by Christians telling them God will heal them, and they aren't being healed because they have no faith. I am in no way against healing, but as with any illness medication is sometimes needed. :sun:

I agree with you Sunshine

Hi There....

Not sure if anyone will read this however, let me give some insight on this awful disorder....
Depression/Panic Attacks - is usually caused by a chemical imbalance of the brain. I believe there to be a thin line between the psychological/emotional and the spiritual aspect of any human being. With that being said, I believe the best way to arm yourself during any depression/anxiety is to go the Word of God first and then seek mental help. Whether that person suffering is placed on medication or not makes no difference, we are to place our trust in the Lord and continue to use common sense by seeking the professional help we need.

The truth is, is that during any depression/anxiety attack you are unable to see things clearly, clinical depression is completely different from a seasonal depression or circumstantial depression. (such as a death of a loved one or a sudden job change/life style change). Clinical depression comes and attempts to rob you of your life at any time, leaving you emotionally stuck. And many people do not understand that. You cannot just shake it off. But our God is a faithful God. During the darkest moments of any depression/anxiety, God remains faithful and loves us unconditionally. My belief is that we are to go to Gods word FIRST then if necessary, seek help by placing our trust completely in God.

Does this make sense?

Hope so.

Grace1

God is Good! All the time...

Its hard for me to tell someone (family) that I suffer from depression for so long I played a role that i was ok. But I'm not, its hard to battle this demon and so many others at the same time.

If your possessed..

If your possessed with unclean spirits of sorts, you need to have the elders of the Church pray over you or have an exorcism.

and or you have a tomentor from the Devil sent to you because you made room for him, you must at all costes return to the LORD with a repentent and contrite spirit. You must flee from any form of temptation that you feel to weak to resist. God will not let you be tempted more than you can bear and with every temptation there is a way of
escape.

If I am correct about what you are saying, start making a church of the faithful a regular home. Don't wait.

I will pray for you but it is really up to you to diligently seek God and know in your heart that he rewards those who diligently seek him.

God LOVES you and as long as you are alive here on earth there is hope for you..

Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for your reply, sister, sunshine307, are you by any chance in the medical profession?

What if you do not have a church anywhere near you? What are you to do then? I unfortunately am in that position. Plus my family are hopelessly inept in every way, I dont want them to 'help' me ever again, they are to ignorant to be of any assistance. More to the point however, I have been reading up on how to deal with these problems spiritually and I have come to the conclusion that in my state of being I am unable to deal with it alone. I dont want to see a psychologist or seek any form of help such as that since its too one dimensional. How can I get through severe depression in these circumstances?

Sorry Yeshua, I missed your question. No I am not in the medical profession. I am simply a Christian who has suffered from depression for over 20 years, and have learnt through experience.
Grace1, you couldn't have put it any clearer.
Eclipse, let me offer you some hope. As a Christian, for many years I had no church to help me. (I had agoraphobia as well and couldn't get out, and because I couldn't get out no one wanted to know.) However the one thing I did have was the Lord. He was always there - even though sometimes it didn't feel like it. Are you on medication? As Grace has said clinical depression is a chemical imbalance and that chemical needs to be replaced. Can you find Christian counselling in your area? I know in the UK this can be hard to find. What I am trying to say is despite not having help I am still here, I still suffer from severe depression and I have learnt in my own way to cope. Here at TJ there is support, ask for prayer and know fellow believers will be praying for you. Read your Bible - at times this was so hard for me - I just didn't have the energy. You don't need to read chapters - even a verse or two can be enough to deal with. May I recommend a book that was a turning point for me. "Battlefield of the Mind" by Joyce Meyer. I thank the Lord for that book - it helped to transform me. Joyce teaches you how to renew your mind through scripture, so although your depression may still be there underneath, you learn how to cope through God's Word. One verse of scripture that is often quoted for us is "the joy of the Lord is your Strength." If you look at this verse from Nehemiah 8:10 you will see that there is a command before these words. DO NOT SORROW.
"Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength." Nehemiah 8:10
When you feel yourself getting low remember that - we are not to sorrow because the joy of the Lord is our strength. :girl_hug:

HERE is the problem?satan puts thoughts in our minds,if we allow those thoughts to stay?we have big problems. One thing GODS tells us?we have clear minds.Sound minds is how HE says it!
satan is the great deciever.he attacks our minds.resisit him and he leaves.
I have found when my mind is troubled.I just start singing and praising the LORD.I make up a song.Soon, whatever it was is gone.I feeel great then .Because I know,if I trust HIm .Nothing can harm me.ALL things work for our good. But HE tells us to resisit demons!
my wife had serious problems when I met her.I told her to pray and ask the LORD to forgive those who hurt her.She did and has never had those problems since!

Ok here's my thought if my heart was sick should I not take meds? Or lets see if I had cancer should I not have chemo? How about my child is choking on food should I not do the hymlick (sorry about spelling)? Yes we are to come to God for EVERYTHING we also need to realise God uses doctors .
This whole you "dont have enough faith" drives me nuts.... That way of teaching really can make people think they cant love God and they never will. My mother loves God with all her heart and she prays and prays for healing... so tell me does God not love her or her faith is to weak?
I will take the lesson from Shadrach , Meshach and Abed-nego.

Dan 3:17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
Dan 3:18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

God is still God weither somone takes meds or not !!! I can still love God and praise Him .

Dont assume that your walk is like everyone else that yes maybe God said no more medicine for you but that doesnt mean its for everyone.

Amen Bobbie. The mind is a very fragile thing. When you are already suffering from depression and someone tells you it's all your fault, that you're not trusting God, you lack faith etc it is enough to tip you right over the edge. We are all individuals, some of us need medication, some don't, what we all do need is our Father and to read his Word and praise His name. He is an Awesome God.

Depression = emotional scars / unloaded baggage.

But to get the healing needed / unloading needed is not easy always. Some scars is so deep that yes some people need relieve to help them cope and eventually face the baggage and get the healing needed.

I get depressed lots of times and well its not something I can help, yet I try to get out of that situation when I do fall in it. Loads of times I end up crying for what I dont know, yet deep down inside I do.

People's remarks about depression has learnt me to live life behind a mask. I have learnt to always carry a smile on my face, a cheer in my voice and act happy, yet deep down inside it is not whom I am nor whom I want to be.

People has told me to trust God in everything and that will lift your depression. Well that is easier said than done.

How we portray God is the amount we will trust Him.

I have always seen God as fire and brimstone, waiting to punish you for your mistakes. So never portrayed Him as a loving Father that will do anything for me. I never saw the significance of the lost sheep, nor the prodigal son. Just saw them as stories in the Bible.

If we have a distorted view of God, that will in the end of the day give us a distorted relationship with God if any at all.

To know about God is not enough, we need to have a personal relationship with Him. And for us to be able to have that personal relationship with Him, we need to see God for whom He really is, and not the distorted vision we have of Him.

In my life I have heard of God, learnt of Him and feared Him even more. I have gave my life to God out of fear. Fear for His wrath. I never thought of Him as a Father of love, yet hoped He would be.

So my whole life I went through knowing about God, yet not knowing Him. SO I never took my baggage to the cross as fear, shame and guilt overwhelmes a person.

This past few months has been an experience to me. The rollercoaster rides of depression was aweful, yet God had slowly revealed His awesome love for me in ways I could not understand at that time. Now I know He is a Loving, caring, kindhearted Father.

It was when I listened to the song of the prodigal son, how the father ran to meet him with all the things he did wrong. For the first time in my life I got shocked to realisation what it really meant.

So dont dispair - if you do suffer from depression, yes take it to the cross, but seek the true Face of God.

He is not a judging Father. He loves us so much - much much more than my feeble human mind can ever comprehend.

When we see our Father for whom He really is, then it is so much easier to take the baggage to the cross and then let Our Heavenly Father fix our broken hearts/scars with pieces of Himself.

I know how you feel. Up until about a month ago i was a cutter, and before that it had lasted nearly 6 months. i'm really struggling with the concept of telling my parents, though i know i have to. i can predict how much it will hurt them. it's been so easy to pretend everything is alrite, and then one night while doing my Bible study i came across a couple of verses that have scared me ALOT.

"2There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. 3What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs."

Thats fromLuke chapter 12 (NIV).

So if you ever want to talk to someone who understands how you feel, the fear, the anxiety, not-knowing what the reaction will be, pm me and i will be sure to reply!!!

Im with ya... and God sure is. that's the one thing that helped me through. and it is comforting... He doesnt leave you... and i know that when i do get the courage to tell them that he will be with me then too. it may take time but honesty is the best policy.

i love ya lots and i will be praying for you.
