ROMANS 6:3-7
This passage shows us how and when a believer is justified, born of GOD, and saved as a member IN Christ.
(3) Do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death?
Believers baptized with the Spirit of Jesus Christ were joined together with His Spirit into His death and thereby justified, raised to life/born of GOD as a member in Christ Jesus by being made alive together with His Spirit. We will show why this does not refer to a believer being baptized with water in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins (from Acts 2:38). For by one Spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free, even all were made to drink into one Spirit (1 Cor 12:13).
(4) Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father; even so we also should walk in newness of life.
This clarifies verse 3 above. Believers were buried with Him by being joined together with His Spirit into His death so that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we should live life anew as risen from the dead by being made alive in the resurrection together with the Spirit of Jesus Christ.
(5) If we have grown along together to be in the likeness/image of His death (by our “old man” being spiritually crucified to die to sin as we repent), we shall also be of His resurrection, (born of GOD by being made alive together with His Spirit when justified by being joined together with His Spirit into His death).
If by receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit we are conformed to a likeness of Jesus Christ and His death, then we shall also be of His resurrection by being made alive together with His Spirit. We die to sin as we are spiritually crucified with Christ to be justified by being joined together with His Spirit into His death and born of the Spirit when we are raised to life by being made alive together with His Spirit. How are the dead raised and with what body do they come? What you sow is not made alive unless it dies (1 Cor 15:36).
(6) knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be destroyed, that from now on we should not serve sin.
To be spiritually made in the likeness of His death, our “old man” (body of sin) is spiritually crucified with the Spirit of Christ to die to sin in our life so that we no longer serve sin. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts (Galatians 5:24).
(7) For he who died has been justified from sin.
Those who have died (death) have been justified of sin. We are justified when we die with Christ by being joined together with His Spirit into His death after we have crucified the affections and lusts of the flesh.
….“as many of us as have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death ” (Romans 6:3).
Who are the “as many of us as have been baptized into Christ Jesus?”
The ”as many of us as have been”…….are those who have been baptized into His death (Romans 6:3).
This is when believers were “justified,” because, “he who died (by being baptized with the Spirit of Jesus Christ into His death) has been justified from sin (Romans 6:7).”
And when is a believer justified?
It is one God who will justify the circumcised by faith, and the uncircumcised through faith (Romans 3:30).
Believers are justified after their heart has been circumcised by dying to the affections and lusts of the flesh.
We are justified by being baptized with His Spirit (not water) into His death because it was Jesus Christ who died for all and was raised to life, and because by one Spirit (not water), we are all baptized into one body.
