In the aftermath of the Obama Adminstration’s nuclear deal with Iran, at least three Americans, including Washington Post correspondent Jason Rezaian, remain imprisoned in that country against their will. When this fact came up during a White House press conference on Wednesday, President Barack Obama appeared to take great offense at the suggestion that he is “content” with the outcome of the deal even though it does not guarantee those Americans’ release.

“As you well know, there are four Americans in Iran, three held on trumped-up charges according to your administration and one, whereabouts unknown,” CBS News’ Major Garrett said when it was his turn to ask the president a question. “Can you tell the country, sir, why you are content with all the fanfare around this deal to leave the conscious of this nation, the strength of this nation unaccounted for in relation to these four Americans?”

“I’ve got to give you credit Major for how you craft those questions,” Obama said in response. “The notion that I’m content as I celebrate with American citizens languishing in Iranian jails,” he added, taking a pause. “Major, that’s nonsense, and you should know better.”

“Nobody is content, and our diplomats and our teams are working diligently to try to get them out,” Obama said. “Now, if the question is why we did not tie the negotiations to their release, think about the logic that that creates. Suddenly Iran realizes, ‘You know what? Maybe we can get additional concessions out of the Americans by holding these individuals.’

“And, by the way, if we had walked away from the nuclear deal, we’d still be pushing them just as hard to get these folks out,” the president added. “That’s why those issues are not connected, but we are working every single day to try to get them out and won’t stop until they are out and rejoined with their families.”

Earlier this year, Obama called on Iran to release the Americans, saying, “At this time of renewal, compassion, and understanding, I reiterate my commitment to bringing our citizens home and call on the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately release Saeed Abedini, Amir Hekmati and Jason Rezaian.”

I'm outraged.

Yesterday, a journalist asked President Obama about the four imprisoned Americans he abandoned in Iran.

President Obama quipped, "You should know better."

No, Mr. President, you should know better.

You should know better than to leave an American behind.

American Pastor Saeed suffers in a deadly prison in Iran because he is a Christian.

President Obama promised his release was a "top priority." This week he broke that promise. He chose Iran over Americans' freedom.

We won't be silent. We won't back down.

We're aggressively fighting in Congress to defeat a bad deal with Iran that abandons Pastor Saeed to rot in jail.

Congress has unanimously promised to fight for Pastor Saeed and the other three Americans. We're holding them to that promise.

But time is running out. Pastor Saeed needs your voice today.

From the moment that President Obama said "This is not a Christian Nation". He has done nothing to show anyone that he supports Christianity in any way shape or form. Sadly, this latest is no surprise at all.

We need to continue to keep those around the world in daily prayer. Who are not only imprisoned for the faith, but for those who are also persecuted daily. For they are not ashamed to profess who and why they believe as they believe. That is Our Risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Your President is correct, but I agree with the sentiment that he does not support Christianity. But then, why would he as he has encountered mostly negativity from American Christians because he has a Muslim background? Personally, I don't care if someone was raised Catholic, or Baptist, or whatever; Everybody has a background which factors into their thinking and their decisions whether it be personal or professional. If you're fortunate, those in power agree with you think is correct.

@Shutterbug
Thanks for the share, even if its a bit off here and there or should I say....missing context.

As far as being critiqued for his Muslim background. He's a professing Christian and not a Muslim!
If he's lying about being Muslim........well, just add that to a long list which is growing.

Plus he's been critiqued for everything! I think when you're President it goes with the territory. There hasn't been not one American President that was not been put down or critiqued by the opposition or folks in general. Always remember that there are two sides to every election and the losers rarely take it with grace. Not that I agree with this. Even though I disagree with much of what he has done. I do pray for him and no not to go to hell either. I believe it's our responsibility to pray for our leadership.

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
1 Timothy 2:1-2

I do agree that background in which one is brought up affects one. Yet if you're a believer. Guess who has the greater affect? Not only in words, but deeds as well. He is not reflective of the belief he's professing to have.

As far as those in power agreeing with one. All authority is God given, so I respect the authority though I realize it doesn't always or almost never at least in America go along with Scripture. Meaning that just because authority is God given, doesn't mean that the authority given is not abused by those who have it. One of the reasons for praying for them!

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Romans 13:1

The sadness here is that we have a or should I say many Brothers in Christ Jesus who are still being held against their will.
They should be our focus and not the ones who for whatever reason do nothing that one can tell to free them. Yet I will continue to pray for them, that if the authority has been given to them. That they use it on behalf of those incarcerated. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O Thou most High.
What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee.
In God I will praise His word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
Psalm 56:2-4

This is an excerpt from a FB support page a few days ago

Saeed's father visited Saeed in prison today. Saeed had heard about the deal with Iran and wanted to share the following message with you all (see below). Please pray for Saeed as the situation inside of the prison has become worst for him at the hands of the hardliners who do not like that he is an American and also that he is a convert from Islam to Christianity. These are the same hardliners who have been chanting death to America. It is urgent that we get him out. Please join our family in prayer.

Saeed's letter:

I know that so many of you have felt that I have been left behind after a deal was reached with Iran and I am still not home.

I want you to know that as I wrote the thank you letter to President Obama after he had visited my family in January of this year (which he read at the national prayer breakfast), that God is in control of all countries and leadership in the world when the body of Christ comes together in united prayer. He is in control and He is the One who beautifully writes the history over all governments, presidents, and any P5+1 negotiating team.

We are all looking for a safer, more friendly world and because of this desire many of us are happy and others un-happy about the deal. Please join me in using these emotions that have been awakened to give fervor to united prayer for God’s chosen nation, for America, and for the whole world.

Pastor Saeed
in chains for Christ and chained together in unity

Pastor Saeed knows the Lord is in control
And the Lord will continue to be his strength and stay

Pastor Saeed has been on my heart ever since he was captured. God has made this a burden and I have never even met the man but my heart breaks for him. I do believe that not only our president but our country has been horrible in the support for Saeed. Most of my family members haven't even heard of him. And I blame the media for this. When was the last time you heard a news report (other than the internet) about Saeed? Not even our president has mentioned him lately.

My heart is truly in pieces for the situation of our brother in Christ but He is also an inspiration. Jesus has him there for a reason. I believe that with all my heart. But let us, as brothers and sisters in Jesus, continue to pray for him. This man needs the support of fellow believers. And I believe that is what Jesus is using him for. His situation can bring us all together. But I know my Lord will never forsake Saeed.

God bless.

Few people think outside the box. Most are primarily interested in what directly affects them, not what affects someone else especially when there is little benefit. I ordered a book from an organization called Martyrs For Christ. This organization sends me a monthly news letter. In some countries, Christians are typically captured and held for ransom. How much you're worth to your captors depends on how much you're worth to your country or friends. If neither notices you missing, then imprisonment is a distinct possibility which may be more about providing entertainment than gain. Either way, it's a bad situation for the captive. Mr. Saeed more so because he is viewed as a traitor to Islam, and his nationality is with a country which they despise. Not a good scene.

Even if our country forsakes Him, God never will. And neither will his brothers and sisters in Christ. Very true words though, Shutterbug.

Yes he is being held because he is a christian. Yes BO did abondon him.
but
Yes he is being held for the glory of God, but trying to communicate with someone as lost as BO is throwing Perls to swine.
We must pray for all them that live a life of lies on both sides Dem or Rep. All they do is cause dissension among our country and the world.
We all know If Jesus didn't have a purpose for Reverend Saeed to be in Jail he would do as he did for Peter and send and Angel to walk Reverend Saeed right out of the Jail.
This is all for a reason My Lord My God Jesus Christ is using this situation for good and I believe Reverend Saeed God Bless his soul knows and is allowing the Lord's
Will Be Done. We should look to Reverend Saeed for inspiration on they way we should live our lives. We need to Pray for our Brother in Christ Reverend Saeed but do not give into the temptation of anger and hate. BO Has no Authority over anything that God has not permitted and he is only fooled by his own will. We must always realize. God is Always in full control, matter how bad the situation.

In closing I pray,
God I ask please give Reverend Saeed strength to endure this trial for your glory. I also pray that you give your church and all members (All that believe you Jesus Christ) the strength to not turn to Anger and Hate.
Hate is of the evil one. Love is from God, Love is God.
This I ask in Name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Forever and Ever Amen.

Shutterbug,
I pray for you this is the talk Jesus Forum yet I hear no mention of Jesus in your post. I hear mainly what are points of fact that many do know, if they care to know. Are you here to cause Dissension this is a forum we need to speak the truth yes but always with love. It really makes no difference the details are what the evil want us to pay attention to so we may bicker. Today in the word there is no discussion of anything.
Only people who think one way or the other and plead there case to people who are like minded. As the says "preach to choir" but anytime as I have seen many times in the past no one with a different opinion want to have a discussion if you talk to they say "I don't want to talk about it." What it comes down to is We have no Power when it comes to the heart. Only God can change a heart.
May the peace and love our Lord Jesus Christ be with you forever and ever. Amen

Good evening King1;
You're right; some do, some do not; nope. I didn't come here to pick a fight and that never entered my mind. However, it seems you do. Fine, do whatever you want. I've been cursed twice in the name of Jesus by people who claimed to be more righteous than you. If you have a problem, file a complaint with Chad. I'm sure he will be happy to address the issue. If he decides against me, my feelings won't be hurt. Cheers, John

I am praying that God will give Saeed the strength necessary to go through whatever it is that God desires that he go through. He can be pulled out of there safely, but sometimes we must give all that we have. If we think we cannot, we underestimate our God. Praise his name!

"If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up." Daniel 3:17-18

Hello Shutterbug,
First Let me Ask your forgiveness for my oversight I did think nor did I intend to curse you. I did notice that there was no mention God or Christ and If you do or do not believe that is your choice. As far as being cursed by those more righteous that is not hard to do. Without God I am nothing even now when I try to do my will instead of his will I am horrible. The fact is "Talk Jesus" is a beautiful thing there are so many places out their that spew hate at each. Here as followers of Christ he tells us we must speak Truth , but with Love. "Truth without Love is a resounding Gong." To you I say the world will always try to tell us how bad things are, But God through Christ is always in control Here is Good read for you

I never made any assumptions that I was being cursed. I thought I'd mention it. You were forgiven long before I replied, not to worry. In fact, I delayed my reply for a day so I wouldn't be inhospitable as I was unsure of exactly what I was being taken to task for.

Do I believe in God? Do I believe Jesus will reign as God and for eternity? Yes, to both. I have essentially convinced myself that come Judgement Day, it will be a pretty short conversation which will go something along the lines of, "John, do you like warm places?" as the Good Lord and I both know the outcome. Having said that. my intent is not to discourage anyone from seeking Jesus as their Lord and Master. I may not have helped in that regard, but I do not wish to discourage anyone.

Years ago I subscribed to a Pentecostal newsgroup. One chap in particular was less than friendly when he didn't get his way. To this day, he is still making an effort at preaching online and singing "inspirational" songs. I can honestly say that any sincere Christian did not stay for long as much of the conversations revolved around the aforementioned chap and his peeves. In his mind, he was being righteous in fulfilling Scripture by cursing people in the name of Jesus. For fact, my first wife whom I considered then and now a Christian, also took a shot at cursing me. My response was perhaps some day she will get her wish.

Thank you for pointing out my lacking of certain phrases, but please be careful when policing conversations as what goes around may come around. Phil 4:8

ShutterBug,
Yes God forgives me but many times we sin against god another man and ourselves. I say it because I am the weak one and sometime I need to hear it so that 1. I can say to myself I have done my part and 2. I can remind myself that I am only a sinner and need forgivness that way I can accept God's Forgivness. God gives us forgivness we have to cooperate and recieve it.
May the Peace of Our Lord Jesus be with you Forever and Ever. Amen. Now go out and serve the Lord by Loving and Serving your fellow Man.
