Ok, so my screen name is Slayer, it just happens to be my favorite band, even when I was at my most faithful to god, I still listened to them. They do sing a lot of anti christian songs which at the time bothered me, but I knew that the singer was actually a christian and when asked about the album title "god hates us all" he laughed and said 'god doesn't hate you, it's just a great title'. So they obviously don't believe in thier message. They were banned from Australia for years because of the song "Angel of death" (about Nazi Joseph Mengele) because people thought they were Nazis, what they didn't realise was the album producer was Jewish. It's like saying people who make documentaries about the holocaust are nazis. So what are your thoughts about satanic bands, Do you take them seriously? Or do you just laugh it off as a joke? Remember, The beatles didn't actually live in a yellow submarine.

It is without a doubt sinful and is sin.

Why though?

Its explained in the bible that actions and thoughts can be sinful. So even thinking of something sinful is a sin.

But, the people don't mean it like that when they do it?

Sin is actually...sin. There really isn't a way around it and no other name that it can be given. You cannot justify sin with any actions, feelings, or excuses.

Feel free to ask any questions, i'd be happy to answer.

back in 1993 I met an American teacher who loved Egypt so much, and I asked him the truth, I mean what he didn't like about us, I said to him there must be something you didn't like, so what it is?

He said you people (Muslims and Christians) use the name of God all the time in usual life, and we (The Americans) don't do that, because the name of God is so Holy, and must be respected

I loved this advice so much, and tried to do as he said, so I believe according to this advice, using the name of God, on an album or in songs that are not dedicated to God, is sin.

and also it's written in Exodus chapter 20 verse 7

You shall not take the name of Yahweh your God in vain, for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

so I'm so careful about using his Holy name.

Slayer,

I have been in your position before, thinking that music and such do not matter 'because that's not what I really meant.' But it does matter. As I grew more in my relationship with the Lord, I grew in the love of the Lord, and realized that more and more that I was deceiving myself into believing that surely it's all harmless (Hosea 4:6 - that is, spiritual knowledge). Boy, I was wrong, and as the Lord revealed more to me about soul ties and deliverance and healing in Him, I realized that it not only effected me and my relationship with the Lord, but also led me to cause others to stumble in their walk too...realizing I was held accountable for their fall (1 Cor. 8:13). That bothered me a lot because it wasn't about just me anymore, but others, and most importantly about how I was hurting the Lord Jesus, the One who died for me...even when I did not know Him yet (1 John 4:19).

You had mentioned how some of the lyrics or names were said, but the people indicated that's not what they really meant. Well, if anything, that causes confusion over others, and it does effect them (whether they understand it or not, but the demons do...they know exactly what they are doing in it, words effect people (James 3:6-9)...they either speak life into someone, or death). Some Scriptures to understand about confusion: 1 Cor. 14:33 (God is not a God of confusion); James 3:16 (according to this Scripture, there's envy and strife there also, in that 'talk of confusion'). It is important that one who believes in the Lord examines their heart fully and completely(2 Cor. 13:5), led by the Holy Spirit because a man's heart will deceive himself (Jer. 17:9; 1 Cor. 3:18) (without the Spirit's guidance into what is pure and helpful to someone - what we see as harmless may not be the same in the Lord's eyes because He knows the spiritual implications behind it - Isa. 55:8-9; Jer. 17:10; Ps. 26:2).

One other Scripture that may be useful in tying all this together above: Matt. 15:10-11

Something to go to the Lord in prayer about, and it may be helpful to learn some things about soul ties and deliverance. A couple of books that are great at explaining these topics: "Pigs in the Parlor," by Frank and Ida Hammond and "Breaking Unhealthy Soul Ties," by Bill Banks.

This post is like 'Rubics cube' a mixture of many shades of colour, the challenge of the post being to get them all to match, or to suggest they do already match together? I am not so sure.

But I wish you well.....in JESUS.

Listening to satanic music is very dangerous. Of course it doesn't appear that way because satan wants us to think it's 'no big deal' 'it's just a song' ....but it does matter. Demons don't need huge doorways to get in...however having satanic music in your house and listening to it is a huge doorway for demons.

I don't like most hard rock, satanic or otherwise. I just don't care for the music. However, when I can make out the lyrics, or occasional see the lyrics in print, it is quite an eye-opener if it is "satanic".

This music, and those who like it, are giving us a message. It is wrong (sinful) for us to turn it off and ignore it. First, these songs are full of pain and dissatisfaction and disillusionment. They are put off by the holier-than-thou judgemental attitidues of many Christians. They reject God because they reject the intolerance of those they know and read about who are so-called Christians.

We must reach out to the people who like this music and show them through our love that there are other attitudes and beliefs that will help them get along better in life.

Jesus embraced the sinful. That's the people he associated with, according to the Gospels and St. Paul. When we refuse to listen to the discouragement and mistaken beliefs of those separated from God, it is US who are the sinners and against Christ's teachings.

Myself, I will not be like the few German people who burned books and prohibited music they didn't like, and overlooked the death camps right next to their cities, nor like the the majority who conveniently shut it all out of their minds as having nothing to do with them. Christ calls us to intervene with love and good works towards those who are separated from God, without judgement or expecting anything in return. Churches ought to be reaching out to these people, rather than being places for self-righteous slaps on the back for tuning them out.
