Hello...
I know now that satan can't read our minds? But I've got a problem. Before I got serious as a Christian I used to swear a lot...almost in every sentence I used foul language. Now sometimes when I'm thinking of something which hurts me...swear words come to my mind even when I don't like them and I don't want them. Now obviously swear words are darts thrown by satan, but how does he know the right time(like when I'm thinking of hurtful things) to do that even when I don't show any outward indications?
Well...I think that those hurtful thoughts are planted by satan so maybe that's how he does it....besides this any biblical answers?

We are all born in sin so the nature of our flesh is sin there fore the thoughts as annoying as they are, are normal. This is normal due to our sinful flesh and nature.

Please meditate on this Scripture:

Ephesians 6:10-18

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[a] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

i always tried to look at it this way....
Jesus lives in our hearts.....
and satan works on our minds....
as soon as he places a thought there rebuke him and get your mind on something else

I have to agree with you imready4thelord. One of the first places satan will attack us is the mind. A verse I use is Romans 12 v 2 "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." We need to consciously renew our minds, by reading and applying the Word of God.

Like people have said, we have to wrestle sin it is with us

Mark 7:21 "For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts, covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and defile the man"

Satan cannot read minds but he may know how to make us doubt ourselves or convince ourselves things are right when really they are wrong.

To me it is down to conscience, I link that to God, we all have choice, you may fall off the ladder now and then but remain strong willed by doing the right things and making the right choices

a good preacher friend of mine once preached a revival for us,and he made this statement i'll never forget
satan is the greatest fisherman of all times,he knows just what lure to pull out of his tacklebox to use on each individual....and it is up to us Not to take the bait.

Just gvive those thoughts to God as soon as they appear, see them dissappear even if you have to use some imagination

These things also sometimes interupt you when you are praise and worshiping. Then it is the Holy spirit showing you what is wrong in your life..

I think its important to start here. Satan is a defeated enemy. James 4:7, "So give yourselves humbly to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. And when you draw close to God, God will draw close to you." Satan has no power, and give him none. We have choices, in our thoughts in our actions. In our mind the Bible tells us this. Philippians 2:5, "Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus." Pray and confront these thoughts directly and discipline your mind in to embracing things that are good. We should discipline our thoughts to be pure because actions begin in the heart. Mark 7:21-22, "For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts of lust, theft, murder, adultery, wanting what belongs to others, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, pride, and all other folly." So the battle ground is understood. Victory is yours, lets get our mind right. Proverbs tells us who we are. Proverbs 23:7, "For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…"

I believe that Jesus was the manifestation of God's word on earth. Obviously God existed outside of Jesus as well. Jesus wasn't all of God, but all of Jesus was God.

It takes time and diligents.

It takes time and diligents. You need too, as we all do, is fill our hearts with only good thoughts and things.

A good man out of the good treasures of the heart bringeth fourth good things: Matt.12:35

Hi Naomi,
I experienced the same sort of thing after becoming a Christian. At first I tried to suppress it, of course that didn't help. I learned to pray as soon as it happens. It hasn't completely stopped, but doesn't happen nearly as often, and feels quite 'superficial' when it does.
It helps me to know that satan can do nothing without God's permission; that God sits 'as a refiner and purifier of silver' (Malachi 3:3) and 'in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called to His purpose, for those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of His son' (Romans 8:28-29). I wonder if these attacks are a way of purifying, God working in us to confront us on issues and deal with things, but using satan to do so. (what do others think? I pray I haven't offended anyone)
Basically I agree with what others here have said, give the thoughts to God as soon as they appear; apply prayer and the word of God.
God bless you,
Jane

I was thinking about my post and realised I left off something important, which is, do not fear. Trust God, and He'll get you through this.

'For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear, I will help you.'
Isaiah 41:13

Did yo ever smoke a cigarette? The reson it is so hard to quit smoking is the fact that it is a habit."Du" you say? Well,so is using foul language. It is usually only a social sin or rudeness, but if it's real bad then it's a sin against yourself. A word said may never be unsaid. However, when we curse an inanimate object it is usually cause we misused it or our inability to do something. This means that we have lost patience in what we are doing.
Everything comes back to the self, how we are raised or the problems we encountered as a child taught us to react positively or negitively to all similiar situations. If you are a Christian then forget about satan cause he is none existant. Jesus overcame all evil and we are personal property of Jesus Christ so we let the power of Christ deal with all evil.(...deliver us from evil.)O.K.
So each time someone slips with a cuss word,if they say"forgive me Lord) out loud, then sooner or later they will Quit saying these things. SELF CONTROL!
MGBY(May God bless you)

This is so true. I need more self control because when i do slip and say things i KNOW is not of the lord i need to ask please lord forgive.

One thing I started doing since I came to know the Lord is to meditate in His words day and night. I truly believe in my heart that when you start doing this, evil things would start to die from our minds. It is a practice, a must I think that we as believers should do for the rest of our lives. Praise God for His wonderful plans to us. Let's always get excited on the things unseen, the promised of our Heavenly Father in everyday of our lives! The eternal life! Halleluah to the Lord, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords!

Sorry, Kind of Duplicated Your Thoughts Naomi

:rose: Sorry, I just posted a questions similar to this post. I like your thoughts Janie. That is what I was wondering. Whether God allows this to purify us, or for some further purpose of His. Cause it is a lot of work, to deal with the evil one attacking and a lot prayer goes into, reaching through to our Father. Still interested in hearing thoughts about this, from others. Thanks: Pixie:rose:
