For the first 49 years of my life I was a non-believer. That all changed for me one day this winter.

I had felt for quite sometime that something in my life was missing, but I couldn't put my finger on it. A very good friend of mine, who is a Christian, told me stories of how Jesus has helped her throughout her Christian life. I began to wonder if maybe there was something to this whole Jesus thing.

I began to ask for a sign... if Jesus was real, surely he could give me a sign. Never really expecting one, but still asking, it came to me one day as I was driving to work. The details aren't important (except to me), but I had an epiphany that left me with no doubt about Jesus being real. A feeling of such euphoria that it beings me to tears whenever I think about it.

Since that day, I have been reading the Bible, as well as any other books about Jesus I can lay my hands on. I fully believe in Him now, and that He died for my sins.

I hear people say they have been "saved". Is that what has happened to me? Or is being "saved" a formal ritual at a church? Sorry for my ignorance on the subject but again, I'm 50 and the first 49 years of my life I was a non-believer.

I was baptized as a baby in a Lutheran church but don't see how that should matter much as I had no conscious choice in the matter.

Thanks in advance.

Congratulation for your decision Dear Chuck1958 !

being saved means , to come to Jesus and have personal relationship with him.
If you truly and totally surrender your life to him to be your Lord of your life, thats what it takes to be saved,

God dose not look at the formal rituals happen in the church, but he is looking at our heart

John 6:35

And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

John 10:27-28
27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
28 "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

This is so great for you !

I understand what you're talking about. I've also just started believing in Jesus. Out of interest I started reading about Jesus. And I got the feeling that it was the truth. Once I realised this, this feeling became much stronger. I started praying to Jesus and it became stronger ever since. I compare my small prayer as being me giving a small knock on the door and Jesus opened the door widely and stepped into my life. "Knock and the door will be opened"

I would say to you: just let it happen. Pray to Jesus that you believe in him and that you believe he died for your sins and he will come into your life too. It's an amazing and overwhelming experience !

I started going to churches and now I found one, the Baptist church, and I'm getting baptised in a month or so.
