If you are on a tight budget or have lots of left overs and don't like waste....this is an excellent way of using up those scraps.

Adjust the recipe according to size required and taste. I'll just put the basics here.

Left over bread sliced
Butter
Left over such as vegetables carrots, onion, peas, potatoes, leaks, mushrooms
Gravy or vegetable stock seasoned to taste....at least 1 litre
Cooked mince meat/Cooked chicken scraps/Soya mince or other cooked meat of choice

1. Lightly greece a shallow casserole or pyrex dish (about 8cm deep)
2. Place a layer of sliced bread at the base of the dish
3. Cover with the vegetables and meat and about half of the gravy mixture
4. Butter the remaining bread and place it on top of the meat and vegetable mixture butter side up
5. Pour the remaining gravy/stock over the top of the bread and butter slices ensuring there is enough to soak it
6. Stand for a couple of hours or overnight in the refridgerator
7. Check that the lower layers are still moist
8. Cook for about 40 minutes in a hot oven until the top layers of bread are crisp

Depending on your taste and choice of ingredients add grated cheese to the top if desired

Serve hot.
It is very filling but can be served with a side dish of vegetables.
