While Jesus was teaching in the Temple, he called out, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I come from. But I'm not here on my own. The one who sent me is true, and you don't know him. But I know him because I come from him, and he sent me to you." John 7:28-29 NLT
Jesus boldly and confidently made claims that set Him apart from other men, namely that God the Father had sent Him from heaven, where He had enjoyed a very special bond with both the Father and the Holy Spirit. Later, the apostle John summarized God’s purpose for sending Jesus to earth: “He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him” (1 John 4:9).
Jesus, the Son of God who came to earth to die and then rise again, is the one and only mediator between a holy, loving God and sinful humanity—and the ultimate expression of God’s love.
You can take heart in the wonderful truth that Jesus wasn’t just a good man who delivered amazing moral teaching. He was God’s only Son, sent by the Father so that He could give you a forever home in His heavenly kingdom.
Prayer: Loving heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your only begotten Son so that I can have close, intimate fellowship with You—and so that I can have my sins forgiven and then spend eternity in Your eternal kingdom.
