Sermons - the best bit for me!

It's funny I went to church yesterday evening to find they were omitting the sermon from the service because there was a meeting taking place right after. I was gutted.

My favourite part of the service is where they read the bible and then teach you things about what's been read. I love listening and learning. It's where I really feel like God is clearly speaking. Prayers too... I learn a lot through listening through others prayers and praying with others is cool.

However, the joke was you'll be glad the sermon is cancelled! Am I the only person that thinks that's the best bit of a service?

Normally I bounce out of church ready to put what I have heard/learned into action and feel refreshed, revitalised (whether or not I manage it for long that week is a different matter but I try) but yesterday I left not really understanding the bible passage read so perhaps left feeling a bit dim and like I'd missed a chat with God.

So here's my question...

What's your best bit of a service?
and why?

Not to say I don't enjoy the sermon, because the Sr. is pretty good, but hands down my favorite part is the songs in worship, in fact it is the reason i attend the church I do. For me anyway I just cant get overly excited about traditional organ hymns (with a few exceptions). Our worship team is fairly modern and does more Christian Light Rock stuff and modern adaptations of hymns. gets my batteries charged for the week.

My favourite part of service--where do I begin. For me it's everything. The songs (some old & all of the new) in praise to Him who is so awesome. The prayers for those in need. The sermon - just like you said Sleepy - because I love to listen and learn more of the Lord. Then the fellowship - greeting and hugging - my fellow believers.

The only in the service I wont miss if they took it out is the annoucements for some reason they really annoy me. (Put it on the bulletin board, I'll read it later) The service for me is worship, hearing God's word and prayer to lift up & encourage. God bless.

Best wishes,
Snowrose

Cool question Sleepy. Well, since I moved here I haven't found a new church. But in my last church that I attended I just loved the sermon. The pastor was great and whatever passage we were reading, taught it in such a way that I got a better understanding, he often used humor to explain a point. I liked the praise and worship aswell.
