My son wants me to buy him this new game called Diablo 3.

I am unsure if i should buy it as it contains a lot of demon worship and prime evil (lakes of blood, mountains of skulls, demon hordes etc) and I am concerned that he may start to like this sort of thing.

Was just wondering what your thoughts were on this?

Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:22

A straight out NO

Do not even consider it any further.

May the Lord bless you

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise,
think on these things.
Philippians 4:8

OK thanks, he says that he knows its just a game and is not real unlike GOD so he dosen't see why he should not play it with his friends.

Kind of a difficult situation because I have allowed him to play other silly games in the past but this one...Diablo... just reeks of the devil.

Anyone else have some advice?

We have covered this topic before......

I liked Diablo (Devil in Spanish) Blizzard Entertainment makes some of the highest quality games on the planet.

Diablo III will have a ESRB rating of M that means It can't be sold to someone younger than 17 years of age. I know Walmart enforces this policy, or it's their policy to enforce it. You can go to ESRB.org and check out the Rating systems.

If your child is younger than 17, then you have a good reason right there.

Not the most important reason though.

I do not believe others should be a persons Holy Spirit. We are not under a list of laws and rules. We are under the direction of the Holy Spirit.

You came here asking a question.

Should I buy this game for my son.

You already had your answer.

Rom 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

It's these asking questions, to find a way to go against our own conscience that will cause us great problems down the road.

Your answer is NO DIABLO III, and I agree with you that you will have the Wisdom to explain this to your son. One that he will understand and respect. God is always faithful, and gives us what to say.

Jesus Is Lord.

A lot of those games like diablo and WoW, have blatant satanic and occult imagery, so I would say avoid it at all costs!!! It may appear as harmless fantasy at first, but they include subliminal messages which can subtly influence us.

Good game.

Good game.

I have never played this game. According
to the majority, the game contains demonic
themes which would steer me clear of ever playing
it. I must ask, what Biblical principles makes it
a good game that adds, not subtracts, from
someone's faith?

Titus 2:12
Training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age

Finally someone said it.

very intriguing topic... HolyDiver is actually not christian yet if i understood his profile correct?

these are things where everyone has to do as he sees best.

if he was my kid i wouldnt buy him that because its kinda groase and there's variety of similar games out there that dont have the demonic theme.

God bless you

I want to share my thoughts, backed by Scripture on this

Does it glorify God?

1 Corinthians 10:31
31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

We are His workmanship, made to love Him and serve Him

Ephesians 2:10
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Does it pass the test?

Philippians 4:8

8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are l true, whatever things are m noble, whatever things are n just, o whatever things are pure, whatever things are p lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy - meditate on these things

Is it permissible?

1 Corinthians 10:23 - 24

Do All to the Glory of God

23 "All things are lawful," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful," but not all things build up. 24 Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.

My Conclusion based on Scripture

It is not ok to play such games as Diablo 3. Let's put this in perspective:

- would it be ok for me to have a game such as Diablo in the Talk Jesus arcade section? What about games with cussing or provocative "animation"? Where's the boundary, the line according to Scripture?

Romans 14:23
23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for c whatever is not from faith is 11 sin.

and it says again "whatever is not from faith is sin". Your answer is there (along with plenty other Scripture verses I quoted)

I strongly believe it is wrong to buy such games, especially a parent for a child. How would that look to other unbelievers? And for HolyDiver, I enourage you to seek Scripture on this. I safely assume you love your child since you came here asking a question for the sake of his well being. I'm telling you right now it is not a good idea.

dannibear and philosopher made excellent points. GOD is very clear on this.

Would any of you play these games with Jesus in Heaven? Do you think God would allow such games?

To get to the core of the topic:

Ask yourself, what would Jesus think about this game? I am 100% confident He would not approve of such garbage.

What's your point exactly James? That link doesn't show any specific game, but tell me the name or use the report function. I will look at it and remove any game that may be "off". All games are moderated first, so I cannot imagine any game being unacceptable, but its possible something may have slipped by.

Let me know how this certain game lines up with "Diablo".

Its obviously safe to assume you find Diablo acceptable to play, good for you brother. In the end, that's between you and the Lord as your true judge - not other mere humans as I or anyone else. You decide for yourself whether or not such a game is acceptable. Would Jesus play that game with you? Can you picture your pastor playing that game at a church event for "Kids" or even an evangelizing event to invite lost souls to church and witness to them?

I want to give a small personal testimony, I played Mortal Kombat game and it really affect my mind , and my consience , without knowing. This sort of games are not only games but can affect our spiritual life for bad. I started having bad wicked thoughts after that.

I really encourage you to not buy these kind of games, and if possible for the lord to keep your son, away of all games.

1 Peter 5:8
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

I pray for you.

God Bless you

I'm sure there will be lots more different answers to the question, but for me the question is a simple yes or no one : does God approve of it?
Only good things come to us from our Father, so we should carefully consider whether or not such a game is from/of the Father. If it is evil it isn't, and if it isn't, we shouldn't play it.

And if I would have liked it before I was saved, why would I still like it now that I am saved? Renewing our minds is one of many admonishments of scripture, not keeping the same mind we had before. Or am I missing something here?

I just don't see how hideous demonic themes can have any redeemable value to a Christian's walk with God, and why there is such a fascination with, or a complacency toward evil. I can find no scripture that tells me that a certain amount of evil is tolerable and acceptable for me to condone or partake in, for any reason. But it does say we are to shun it.

Thanks for the list, I see you edited to add the actual games. So you're comparing card playing games with Diablo? Where is the demonic theme in these games you mentioned? I see none. You're trying a little too hard to justify your love for a game like Diablo, but its moot. Sorry brother, your list holds no water. These games are innocent. There is no demonic theme in them.

I quoted ample Scripture in the previous post, you only chose one to respond to. That's ok, no one forces you to respond to anything, but just keep that in mind that there were ample other Scriptures I quoted too and since you picked only one, it does in a way say something in itself.

Gambling games.........

I think the attempt is to single out gambling games being just as evil and all of the devil. By Jamesg own comparison of Gambling games to Diablo III he has a Conscience in which he knows inside what he considers evil.

So How can Chad have these "EVIL" gambling games on his web site, yet judge Diablo III???

Jamesg by his admission is using leverage he knows is wrong. He is not even being honest.

If Jamesg felt those gambling games were OK, He would never have mentioned them, and for Jamesg, they are just as evil as Diablo III since he made that comparison.

This tells me the Brother is violating his own conscience, He knows Diablo III is wrong, He knows Gambling games are wrong, and he is not being Honest here.

I would have never thought those gambling games were evil, many Christians I suppose think all forms of gambling is of the devil.

He that "KNOWS" to do right and does it not, to him it is sin. You can't point out Wrong, if you don't know it's wrong.

Jamesg pointed out gambling games, comparing them to Diablo III, He knows it's wrong and is being deceptive.

Jesus Is Lord.

what is sin to others isn't sin to someone else. we aren't told to follow our heart or conscience in the bible.
perhaps we need straightforward will of the Lord.
we may think and ask what is suitable for us, and what's beneficial or not.

Tit 1:15
Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

We need Faith.

Rom 14:22
Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.

If we don't have faith we may indeed violate our conscience:

Rom 14:23
And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

it's not like our conscience matches what God would want us to do.
Everyman has their own level of faith and conscience of what they feel they cannot do and what they are allowed to do.........

The devil looks for any kind of a legal right, to gain him access into your life. I used to play a lot of vile games like that, and I don't think it had a positive effect for my anxiety. It's wise that you're realizing this now though, and shutting any possible doors. God bless you, and may the Lord take away the wicked unwanted thoughts, from both our minds. Just remember too that Satan's battleground is in the mind. This is where he mainly operates, to either suggest lies to us, or deceive us into temptation. The more we focus on Jesus, the more his lies become apparent, and have no hold on us.

In agreement, even about music. I had the same issue with music even as a Christian, secular music that is. I stopped listening to secular music all around back in 2010. I don't bother with that kind of music at all. I prefer worship music where musicians use the gift of music and instruments to glorify GOD.

Talk Jesus arcade section the same can be said .all games
Do they glorify God.That is what I am asking.
