Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 NKJV
The internet has created some strange trends over the years. One trend that emerged in 2012 was the practice of “dog shaming,” which features photos or videos of dogs acting guilty when faced with the evidence of their misdeeds.
Perhaps the videos became popular because they are relatable. When faced with shame, we often hide our wrongdoings, but this temporary solution leads to greater shame later.
“The less we talk about shame, the more power it has over our lives,” says Dr. Brene Brown, Phd, LMSW in her book Daring Greatly. “If we cultivate enough awareness about shame to name it and speak to it, we’ve basically cut it off at the knees.”
Christians can go one step further than naming our shame. We are invited to receive forgiveness. Don’t let guild and shame stop you from being forgiven.
God doesn’t get laughs by creating “human shaming” videos for heaven’s YouTube channel. He wants a close relationship with you. The next time you feel tempted or guilty, boldly approach God’s throne and restore your relationship with Him. He is ready to give you mercy and grace, even when you think you least deserve it.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your mercy and grace. Thank You for not giving up on me when I am tempted to hide from You.
