When Christ sent the apostles to build his church,he gave them certain gifts. Those gifts were to be proof and evidence that what the apostles proclaimed was true.
Tongues was only a sign that the holy spirit indwells a person at conversion. Healings and raising the dead were other signs to people that the apostles were sent from God. The apostles did not have a kjv under their arm when they went out. They were given these signs. Today thanks to their epistles,we have doctrine. Not signs.
Have you ever notice when todays so called evangelists go to another country they have to take along an interpreter? Paul didnt.
Funny that the only 2 gifts that can be faked are the only ones used today, healing and tongues.
The gifts ended with last apostle.

'So then after the Lord had spoken unto them,
He was received up into heaven,
and sat on the right hand of God.
And they went forth, and preached every where,
the Lord working with them,
and confirming the word
with signs following.
Amen.'

Hello @lentz,

The miraculous healings were, as you have said, God's confirmation that the Apostles were sent from God, and were doing His will in relating all that they had heard and seen the Lord Jesus Christ do and say. They were works of God, done through the Apostles. Signs only of their Apostleship, and of the truth of the gospel message that they sought to make known.

Today we have the written word of God, as you say: but today Faith, Hope and Love remain.

'And now abideth faith, hope, charity,
these three;
but the greatest of these is charity.'
(1Co 13:13)

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

STATEMENT OF FAITH - TALKJESUS
Baptism
We believe the baptism in the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance (1 Corinthians 14), is for all believers as promised by John the Baptist (Matthew 3:11), Jesus (Acts 1:4-8), and Peter(Acts 2:38-41). The fulfillment of this promise was witnessed by early disciples of Christ (Acts 2:4, 10:44-47, 19:1-6) and operates in many present-day disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.

A lot of good christians misinterpret scripture;)

Then it should be easy for you to give scriptures supporting your view.
It wouldn't do any good.
I will say this..... James said is any sick among you? Let him called for elders to pray. Then talks of the oil. Olive oil in those days were used as medicinal ointmets and for healing. For us in this day,he is saying if you are sick pray and go to the doctor.

So then the historical testimony of the earliest church taught by the Apostles (who were taught by Christ), the earliest Deacons, and both group's immediate students (appointed and trained by them to be the first and second generation Bishops), is all a lie?

Shall I shower you with many quotes? The gifts of the Spirit (even the sign gifts) did NOT cease with the death of the last Apostle. Can we command them as they could? No not even close, but the Spirit still administers them severally as He wills, when He wills, and how and to whom He wills. Nothing in Scripture or the history of the earliest church (pre-Constantine) indicates otherwise. Not one word!

Now are there many charlatans (especially regarding healing and tongues) out there? Oh yeah, these conmen know where the money is, but do not throw the baby out with the bathwater, when a sick person calls you and asks for prayer, go to them and lay hands on them. God says His word does not return to Him void but accomplishes that for which it was sent and His word (which you should pray back to Him) says if you lay hands on the sick they SHALL recover (albeit there is a sickness unto death, one day, for all of us). Do all speak in tongues? Do all prophesy? God forbid but God knows them that are His and when He needs them He calls them and they know His voice and they strive to do whatsoever He says. Be blessed.

These questions have generated much discussion and controversy among the members of the body of Christ. In some instances it has created schisms. That question is, are the gifts of the Holy Spirit, still being administered to the church (the Spirit born Ecclesia) in our day? Has God revoked some of the gifts (the sign gifts for ALL WHO BELIEVE), and left us with others?

Since the Holy Spirit declared through Paul that the gifts and calling of God are without repentance, does this mean YHVH has changed or repented? Does the fact that gifts are not as powerful in their operation as they were in the apostles indicate all of today’s manifestations are false or even demonic (though many are)? Can we in our time still rely on the statements of Scripture regarding these things? If not, are we then assured of the events predicted to happen in the last days as unfolding in current events will also surely occur? If we cannot rely on some Apostolic statements, then which ones can we? What earthly denomination gets to choose "the Truth"?

I respectfully disagree.
