Slumdogs

We are seeing a number of documentary program’s; eg. ‘’Slumming’’, on the slums of Mumbai, following on from the showing of ‘’Slumdog Millionaire.’’.


1)Do the inhabitants of these (& other slums) recognize that they have problems,as seen through our eyes?

2)What of the many possible problems, for the inhabitants can be solved?

3)If we thought that putting pressure on the Indian Government would help them .What could their government do that wasn’t detrimental to their lives & futures.?

4)Is the trite answer ‘’The Gospel’’, not a cop out for the wealthy internationals amongst us.?

A Pastor once told me of a trip he took to the poorest parts of India. The people were virtually lying in filth and sitting around in despair. The Gospel was preached in those villages and they moved on. Months later on their return trip he was almost shocked at the difference. The people and the place were cleaned up. People were full of joy and were pulling thmselves out of the darkness of poverty.
What a difference Jesus makes.
