So Solomon built the house and finished it. 1 Kings 6:14 ESV
When the Bible repeatedly says “Solomon built the temple,” it doesn’t mean he did any of the physical work. Why then, does the Bible say that Solomon built it?
First, did Solomon use the divinely inspired and very detailed architectural plans for every part of the incredibly beautiful and transcendent temple? Yes.
Second, did Solomon use the extravagantly expensive stockpiles of gold and other materials specially earmarked for the temple and its furnishings? Yes.
Third, did Solomon seek to obey the Lord and his father David at every turn? Yes.
Fourth, would the temple have been built precisely as instructed to glorify the Lord God if Solomon had been against it? No.
Fifth, does the Bible clearly recognize the 150,000+ workforce that did all of the labor precisely as instructed? Yes.
Finally, do men still talk about the new house they’re building, even if they’re doing only some or none of the physical work? Yes.
Prayer: Lord, You want me to see what You’re saying in every word and verse by looking carefully at the immediate and broader context of what You say in scripture. I will.
