Something a little odd that I need cleared up...

Hey everyone
This is probably completely wacky to most of you, but it is kind of unclear to me.
I enjoy writing my own music and poetry in my spare time and I find it easier, as probably do most people, to write to a particular emotion. For instance, I have written a poem that stemmed from the relaxing sound of rain on my roof. The thing is, I don't always have strong emotions flying around in my head, so I do something which I call simulating emotions. By this I mean that I either remember or create or exaggerate something that I may or may not have felt before and use this feeling to write. Not only does this seem a little odd to me, I find that some useful emotions or situations to create in my head are not entirely clean... for example, I found, to create a sort of sneaky, surreptitious piece of music, I could imagine a man creeping through dark streets to go somewhere he was not supposed to be. To get the best effect out of this, I imagined that he was going to a red-light district. All this doesn't seem quite right to me. I'd be happy to hear anybody else's thoughts on this....

Just something I thought of... This seems to me a little like the debates that go on about raunchy films and video games and the like.

I've been a musician for 30 years. I've only been saved for the last three. When I was born again, I decided to write music that is only glorifying to God.

Since then, the LORD has made me a better songwriter by far than I ever was as an unsaved musician. I try to keep my eyes on Him, think of good things, and trust He will help me to become better.

So, I don't really agree with your method. Trust the LORD, He will help you become a better songwriter/musician.

Hi Cadbro!

You sound quite creative with the poetry and music (rain on the roof), and that's awesome! But the "not entirely clean" stuff is not so awesome. :wink:

We need to be pure in our thoughts and let the Lord guard our hearts and minds. And you should try to glorify God with this gift that He gave you and not let your thoughts go too wild.

Hi, i also write music, and sometimes i feel i have writers block. When this happens i usually just come back to it later when i feel the words flowing. I prophet once told me that the Lord said for me not to worry about what I will write, but to get in a quite place and the Lord will give me the words. I believe he will do the same for you.

Be careful when employing the imagination to do anything as it is Satan's door into our lives.

Genesis 8: for the imagination of man's heart [is] evil from his youth;

2 Corinthians: For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

God is about truth and that which is real. Of course we can make up stories and songs that teach truth. Even Jesus spoke in parables. I just encourage you to be careful in the designs and how you obtain them.

In Christ,

Gary
