I was out working in my garden today and noticed a whole bunch of weeds had popped up, and so I decided to get down on my knees and start weeding. And as I was weeding I thought, boy if my good plants which I have planted grew as good as the weeds then I would have a great garden. Because growing weeds take little to no effort at all, they just grow naturally; but growing good eating plants takes a little tender loving care.
And then I thought, this garden is much how are lives are in this world. When we were in the flesh sinning came naturally to us, and sinning, like the weeds in my garden, do not take much effort to grow at all, they just grow naturally. And when we were in sin we didn't mind the weeds so much, because we did not really care about bearing good fruit.
But when we were born again, we then saw the need to bear good fruit. And we then also saw sin like weeds growing in our garden. And so we by the grace of God began to nurture the good seed that the Lord had planted, and we began to weed out the weeds that choke that good seed from bearing good fruit. And sometimes, like in the garden, we need to get down on our knees and pray to the Lord to help us weed all the evil thoughts and desires we have; and to also help us to plant, and water, so that He might bring forth the fruitful increase in our lives.
Sometimes in life we need to inspect our garden to make sure there are no more weeds that have popped up, and we need to weed out the things in our life that might keep us from bearing good fruit.
Happy gardening!
