The American Red Cross published a leaflet in 1979 showing by graph the sharp and tremendous up turn or increase of natural disasters in the United States during the five years then ended, in comparison with four five-years periods before that time dating back to 1955. Of the 774 natural disasters (such disasters being commonly described as 'acts of God' ) in the United States during that quarter of a century , fifty-one percent occurred in the last five years of the period.
