I tried something new with cranberry sauce this year. I wanted to try a spicy version, sort of what you might call a southwest style, so to one package of fresh cranberries I added one diced jalapeno pepper and about one tablespoon of chopped fresh cilantro along with about 1/4 cup of water in which to simmer to cranberries. Then I squeezed the juice of one lime into the sauce. I added a mixture of regular and brown sugar, because I was running low on regular sugar. The brown sugar gave the cranberry sauce a dark red color. The combinations were nice. I'd definitely try it again.
