Spiritual Drought

And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, "[As] the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word." 1 Kings 17:1 NKJV

King Ahab walked away from God. He was selfish and offered free samples of pure evil. Ahab was a man whose choices to defy God exceeded any king before him. He provoked God and followed the non-god Baal.

If Ahab’s heart was dry and barren, maybe he would see his error if the land itself was dry and barren. The prophet Elijah was sent by God to tell Ahab that the rains would indeed stop, and it wouldn’t rain again until Elijah said so. This was a very personal lesson in how bankrupt and hollow Ahab’s ideas were.

Like Ahab, you may need to go through personal and spiritual drought to get to the place where you will admit your rebellion and ask God for help.

He offers living water. Are you thirsty? His Word offers aged meat. Are you hungry? His kindness introduces salvation. Are you in need of rescue?

Prayer: Dear God, I’d like to say my choices are perfect, but they’re not. Help me avoid a self-imposed drought that keeps me from Your refreshing love, grace, and forgiveness. May I see You as the One who never gives me reason to walk away.

Greetings brother, thank you for the words of encouragement in this thread.

We all experience periods of spiritual drought at one time or another.

They can be testing times, seasons of confusion, even exhaustion and feelings of emptiness, times when we can seem very lonely indeed, in the middle of a spiritual desert.

Psalm 42 comes to mind, a lovely Psalm of encouragement in times of spiritual drought, in times when God seems distant in our lifes. (I think)

1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
3 My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, "Where is your God?"
4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go with the multitude; I went with them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast.
5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance.
6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me; Therefore I will remember You from the land of the Jordan, And from the heights of Hermon, From the Hill Mizar.
7 Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; All Your waves and billows have gone over me.
8 The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night His song shall be with me-- A prayer to the God of my life.
9 I will say to God my Rock, "Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?"
10 As with a breaking of my bones, My enemies reproach me, While they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"

I agree with you Brother-Paul. We all experience spiritual droughts in our life. And especially if someone has known the Spirit of God in his life and has experienced the new birth. The relationship with God in that these people experience is alive. And they have their ups and downs and feel encouraged and sometimes also discouraged.
I wonder when someone tells me that his relationship with God is fine most of the times or very few times they feel down. Or they have such a great faith or maybe they don't have it. I don't know. I personally felt many times as being in a desert. Obviously sometimes is also due to my unbelief or lack of devotion to God or disobedience. But I believe that the drought is to teach us, so that we can come out of it with more faith and passion for God than before. When I said to one of my christian Brothers once that I am going through a desert, he told me that it is, because there is something more for me from God, something that I am about to see.
We exercise our faith while we are in a drought.
We have to focus as well because in a desert someone can also die or hurt himself, because of a lack of water. Faith is the answer and God can give us water in the desert too. This is my opinion.
In general, God doesn't like believers that are lukewarm, meaning that their relationship with God is always on the same level. Revelations 3:15,16. It is like they don't feel when they doubt or their faith is hurt and they don't feel when they are truly blessed. I think that the life of a true believer is a journey in which he feels so close to God sometimes, as he is in the heavens and sometimes he can also feel far away and lonely, but he is not. It is just a work being done in his life. We need always to stick to God, in each moment. The relationship that a believer has with God is alive and he keeps on learning.

Greetings, Christ4Ever I am not attacking your "post", i want to get that straight from the start. I really should have review the story 1st, but not yet. Just related memory at this point, i am referring to "King Ahab". As i can remember by memory sakes, Personally i think he got a bad deal, but i am not letting Him off the hook, ok
I think he just married the wrong woman! Now that is my summary of the story.

PS now i going go back and read his story again, check out how he was raised and look at his "wife" again, in the story. Adam got trip up, Solomon got trip up, Personally i think "women are the most beautiful creatures God has ever made. "Make you turn your back on God"! I did not say that, the Bible did, in "implicit and explicit" form.

The devil can attack man or woman and he does, especially if one of them belongs to or comes to Christ.

He is not sexist, is only aim is to stop people coming to Christ and be saved. It is common for him to attack a believer using a none believer, but he also uses ways to stir things up between them, he is the enemy of souls, he will use man to deceive woman and woman to deceive the man, as stated is only aim is to stop people coming to Christ and he will do everything he can to get his aim, breaking families, breaking marriages and more, when we fight amongst ourself our eyes are not on Jesus.
