SPIRITUAL WARFARE: TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT
Dr. David Jeremiah

“Are We Really in a War?”

We are at war against the powers of darkness in this world. In order to win, we must understand the terms of engagement: the strengths and weaknesses of our enemy and the weapons and defenses provided us. Stand ready, for it is defeat or be defeated. Fortunately God has given us tools to live everyday in victory!

In Ephesians 6:1-18, Paul describes the suit of spiritual armor that God gives to every Christian for battle against Satan and the flesh. The girdle of truth makes us agile for battle, the breastplate of righteousness protects our heart and vital organs, the shoes of peace make us sure-footed in Christ, the shield of faith deflects the fiery darts of Satan, the helmet of salvation protects our minds against unrighteous thoughts, and the sword of the spirit, the Word of God, is our offensive weapon that slashes the enemy.

All of these pieces of armor are essential when engaging in battle with the devil, and we must remain ever-ready, being always watchful in prayer and armed with the tools God has given us for victory. During these next couple weeks, Turning Point Television is airing Dr. Jeremiah’s series Spiritual Warfare―Terms of Engagement. Teaching verse-by-verse through Ephesians 6:1-18, Dr. Jeremiah explains the purpose and importance of each piece of our spiritual armor, and urges Christian soldiers to gear up and “pray on” the armor in order to stand ready against Satan’s attacks.

Ephesians 6:10-18

The Whole Armor of God

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. [problem] For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. [solution] Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints
