SPIRITUAL WARFARE
Eph.6:12
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities,
against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against
spiritual wickedness in high places.
DEFINITIONS:
WRESTLE
This is a form of combat that involves grappling with the opponent. It is
contact fighting. Success is dependent on finding a weak spot. Once this weak
spot is found, the opponent is thrown off balance onto the ground and
pressure is applied to pin the opponent to the floor. For the believer this weak
spot is sin.

W - WEAKNESSES OF THE DEVIL
1. KNOWLEDGE THAT SATAN IS DEFEATED
Col.2:15
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them
openly, triumphing over them in it.
Heb.2:14
14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also
himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy
him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
1John 3:8
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the
beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might
destroy the works of the devil.
There is no doubt that Satan has power. He is called `the prince of the power
of the air' (Eph.2:2) and `god of this world' (2Cor.4:4) but he is a defeated foe.
2. THE TESTIMONY OF THE BELIEVER
Rev.12:11
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their
testimony…

SEE WARFARE - DEVICES OF THE DEVIL – MNEMONIC “LUCIFERIANISM”
4. THE BLOOD OF JESUS
Rev.12:11
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb…
1John 1:7
the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
The "accuser of the brethren" has nothing to accuse us of.
SEE BLOOD - PURPOSE OF THE BLOOD
5. NAME OF JESUS
Phil.2:9-10
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is
above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and
things in earth, and things under the earth;
The name of Jesus is above every name. Satan will have to bow to the name
of Jesus. Paul said in
Acts 16:18
18…I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her…
6. AUTHORITY OF THE BELIEVER
James 4:7a
Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Matt.18:18
18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in
heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Luke 10:19
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over
all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
7. KNOWLEDGE OF THE AUTHORITY OF JESUS
Matt.28:18a
"All authority is given to Me in heaven and on earth."
Rev.1:18
"I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen.
And I have the keys of hades and Death."
Eph.1:20-22
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him
at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every
name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all
things to the church,
Jesus is seated on the throne at the right hand of the Father - not at the right
hand of the throne (Rev.22:1).
He is co-equal with the Father and of the same substance as the Father.
He is ALMIGHTY GOD (Rev.1:8).
A - ARMOUR OF GOD
Eph.6:14-18
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the
breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all
the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the
word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching
thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
x HELMET OF SALVATION.
x BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
x BELT OF TRUTH.
x SHIELD OF FAITH.
x SHOES OF PEACE
Eph.6:15
and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
The Christian soldier must be prepared to declare the gospel at all times. The
gospel is the power of God unto salvation (Rom.1:16).
x SWORD OF THE SPIRIT
The sword of the Spirit, is the word of God according to Eph.6:17.
x PRAYER
An open line of communication must always be maintained with Christ.
x WATCHING
We must intercede for and look after our fellow-soldiers, as the armour does
not protect their backs.
Eph.6:18
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching
thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
R - RELIANCE ON THE SPIRIT
1194
Phil.3:3
For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in
Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
Zech.4:6b
`Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.'
1Cor.12:7
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

F - FRUIT
1. FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
Gal.5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness,
goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance…
This makes one Christ-centred rather than demon-centred
2. FRUIT OF OUR LIPS
Heb.13:15
15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that
is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
PRAISE:
2.1. RELEASES THE POWER OF GOD
Acts 16:25-26
25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the
prisoners heard them.
26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the
prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every
one's bands were loosed.
2Chr.20:22
And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments
against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come
against Judah; and they were smitten.
2.2. EXECUTES JUDGMENT ON WICKED SPIRITS
Ps.149:6-9
6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their
hand;
7 To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;
8 To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;
9 To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints.
Praise ye the LORD.
Through high praises and the Word of God, Christians execute the judgment
achieved by Jesus on the cross. Through high praises and the Word of God
the principalities and powers of darkness are restrained and the Kingdom of
God advances.
Matt.16:19
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and
whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever
thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven
2.3. GIVES US ENTRANCE INTO HIS PRESENCE
Praise draws us closer to His presence. As we draw close to Him, He draws
close to us (James 4:8).
Ps.100:4
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be
thankful unto him, and bless his name.
Ps.22:3
But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
A - ASSEMBLY OF SAINTS
Fight together rather than alone.
SEE ASSEMBLE - BENEFITS OF ASSOCIATION.
R - READINESS
1Pet.5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,
walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Eph.5:15
See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
E - ENDURANCE
Heb.10:36
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might
receive the promise.
James 1:12
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall
receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
Matt.10:22
22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth
to the end shall be saved.
Spiritual warfare will invite hardship and tribulation.
2Cor.4:8-10
8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not
in despair;
9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life
also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
2Tim.2:3
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
We are in a battle, no question about it.
