Spiritual Warfare
Talking about variables that affect our prayers; what about spiritual warfare? Yeah I know, you've heard it all, right? Ha! Perhaps it's way more complicated than you think or can even imagine... If prayer is the way Christians communicate with God, the Commander in Chief, then it stands to reason that these prayers would be under attack by the enemy. If you believe the Bible to be the inspired, inerrant Word of God, then you MUST agree that we live in the midst of a massive cosmic war! Look at these words from Ephesians six. "Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places." Hello, sounds like a battle to me.
This battle certainly affects our prayers, but also, our prayers can and do affect this battle. Read the story of Daniel's prayer and the 21-day spiritual battle that followed in chapter 10 of his book. The answer to his prayer was delayed by this battle. Or read the record of Jesus healing the boy possessed by a demonic spirit. After casting it out, He taught His disciples that this could only be done through prayer. Like it or not, we are in the middle of war. May we all have the faith and courage to step up and enlist as soldiers of the cross, daily communicating with our Commander in Chief. God be with you all...
