“Thus said the Lord to me: ‘Go and stand in the People's Gate, by which the kings of Judah enter and by which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem, and say: “Hear the word of the Lord, you kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, who enter by these gates.”’” (Jeremiah 17:19-20 NASB’95)

When I think of “the People’s Gate” in 2025 in the USA, where I live, what comes to mind is the internet. This is where the people are gathering and are communicating with one another, and are having discussions about the Scriptures, and about life, and about what is happening in the world around us. It is where we presently have the freedom to share what the Lord is teaching us from his word and to share the gospel of his salvation. But that will not last forever. One day those freedoms will be taken away from us.

So, if the Lord says to me, “Go and stand in the People’s Gate, and say to the people, ‘Hear the word of the Lord,’” for me that is the internet. For God called me to write down what he teaches me from his word each day and to post these writings on the internet so that a herald could “run with it” (the name of my blog). It is where I share the word of the Lord and the gospel of our salvation, as it was taught by Jesus and by his New Testament apostles, and in the appropriate context, and where other people can read it.

And “all the gates” just remind me of all the various locations on the internet where we can talk with people via writing or video chats, such as on YouTube, X (Twitter), Meta (Facebook), Christian Forums and other Christian discussion sites, such as Talk Jesus, and also in the blogging world, and via Facebook Messenger, Marco Polo, Instagram, and many other locations. In America right now most of these gates are open wide, but not all of them, but they won’t be forever. So we should use these while they are available.

For the Lord chose to send his prophet Jeremiah to the gates for a very specific reason, for it is where the kings and the people went in and out, where the prophet could speak, and where the people could hear the word of the Lord. And it is why the Lord sent me to the internet, for the same reason. For in my town I cannot just share the gospel out in the general public. I did try that, and I was told I could not do that. And today’s church gatherings are mostly not designed for that, either.

But on the internet, right now anyway, I can share what the Lord is teaching me from his word each day, where the people are, and where they can read or listen to what I have to share via the writings and/or the video talks. Nowhere else have I had such an opportunity as this. So I would encourage all who are reading this, who profess the name of Jesus, to make use of the internet, while it is still available, for sharing the Scriptures and the gospel message with the people of the world, either for their salvation, or for their spiritual growth in their walks of faith, as followers of Jesus Christ.

Or, wherever you live, wherever there is an opening to share with people the truth of the gospel, please be doing so while that door is still open, before it is shut. But please make certain that the gospel message that you are sharing is of God, and that it agrees with the Scriptures, taught in context. For Jesus taught that we must deny self, die daily to sin, and follow him in walks of obedience for us to have salvation from sin and eternal life with God, for our salvation is continuous and won’t be complete until the end.

The Solid Rock

Hymn Lyrics by Edward Mote, 1834
Music by William Bradbury, 1863

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
