SignUp Now!I agree with most of what he said, even though I do not agree much with John Piper in general. He is not wise on these matters in my opinion. Some brothers and sisters are quick to say something like, "God does not allow divorce." or sometimes it is the other way "leave. Run away...etc." In fact, these matters are all within 'a gray area.' There is no one answer that is always right all the times, unless it comes from the Holy Spirit. This is why people go to marriage counseling. They have that training and the qualification to help you. They tell you it is better to leave or stay. I'd trust that more than a preacher.
I've listened to this and I have to say thank you but I really don't agree with the thrust of the message or even the title of the sermon. For me, and the Bible, marriage is all about love. A couple so in love want to commit to each other, they say, yes, till death do us part. And so the deed is done, There's a marriage, a ceremony, a commitment, make love, a partnership that God has put together, let no man put asunder.
The preacher emphasises the marriage contract or deal or as he puts it, the covenant. The foundation of a Christian marriage is Jesus but the basis of it is love. A marriage without love is like a car without petrol.
Once married, each partner should place their spouse as their second love (Christ being the first). So to claim that marriage is not about staying in love is a contradiction of Ephesians 5:21-33 and 1 Corinthians 7:2-7.
