" But you, do not be called Rabbi ; for One is your Master, the Christ, and you are all brethren. Do not call anyone on the earth your father ; for one is your Father, he who is in heaven. And do not be called teachers ; for one is your Teacher, the Christ. But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted. " Matthew 23: 8-11.
As we look at churches today, or even just as we walk down the street. We see this teaching of Jesus being thrown in the garbage can! Why do we use titles like Mr, which means master, and Sir which mean sire - " to father ", or call our parents mom and dad? I know some of you might think, " Well we have to honor our mother and father. " but definitely not above God by disobeying his teaching just because we wanna see them " happy " by giving them a title of " respect ". Jesus said that whoever is ashamed of his teachings, he will be ashamed of them Mark 8:38! I think what Jesus was trying to get at with this teaching, is that we SHOULD NOT be putting people above ourselves because we're all brothers and sisters. The only person we should lift up is God/Jesus, right? The best way we can give love/respect to people is by showing them the way to God, not by giving them a fancy title to make them feel good.
