“We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are constantly being delivered over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death works in us, but life in you.” (2 Corinthians 4:8-12 NASB’95)

If we who believe in Jesus Christ are following the Lord in walks of obedience to his commands, and we are following him in his ways, and in being and in doing what he created us to be and to do, then we are going to be opposed, even by others who call themselves Christians. For we will be speaking the truth of God’s words to the people in a day and time when the gospel of Christ is being altered to make it more acceptable to human flesh, and in a day and time when the truth is being snuffed out and replaced with a lie.

And the lie is not just the altered gospel message, but it is the lie which refutes the truth of the gospel and which convinces the people to reject the truth, as though it is a lie, and to accept the lie, as though it is the truth. And since it seems that the majority of people professing faith in Jesus Christ here in America are believing the altered gospel, and they are rejecting the truth of the gospel, if we are speaking the truth, we are going to be rejected and ignored and cast aside and opposed for telling the truth.

So, what is the lie that people are believing? It is that they can make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ, and call him, “Lord,” and now all their sins are forgiven (past, present, and future), and heaven is now guaranteed them when they die, but regardless of how they live. Many are teaching that we don’t even have to repent of (turn away from) our sinful practices, and that we don’t have to obey God and his commandments, for they call that “works salvation.” But that is contrary to what Jesus taught.

Jesus taught that if anyone would come after him that he must deny self, take up his cross daily (die daily to sin) and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to our lives of living in sin and for self, we will lose them for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin (in practice), by the Spirit, and follow our Lord in obedience, in practice, in his power, then we have the hope of salvation from sin and eternal life with God, but provided that we continue in these walks of faith and obedience until the very end (see Luke 9:23-26).

Jesus also taught that not everyone who says to him, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God the Father. For many will stand before him on the day of judgment proclaiming him as Lord and all the things they did in his name, and he is going to say to them, “I never knew you. Depart from me you workers of lawlessness,” because they would not obey the Lord but they continued living in their sins. But we must die to sin and obey God with our lives (see Matthew 7:21-23).

The New Testament apostles taught what Jesus taught. And they taught that if sin is what we practice, and not walks of obedience to our Lord and to his New Covenant commandments, that we do not have salvation from sin nor eternal life with God, and heaven is not our eternal destiny. And this is not “works salvation.” This is about living out the salvation that Jesus Christ already provided by God-persuaded faith in the Lord, by the Spirit, in the power of God, as we cooperate with God’s work of grace in our lives.

For his grace, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we await our Lord’s return. For Jesus Christ “gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.” “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” (Titus 2:14; Ephesians 2:10)

[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 1:12-13; John 6:44; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Romans 2:6-8; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; Galatians 5:16-21; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:1-19; Hebrews 4:1-13; Hebrews 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:5-10; 1 John 2:3-6; 1 John 3:4-10]

And if we are teaching the gospel that Jesus taught, and that the New Testament apostles taught, in their correct and appropriate context, then we are going to be persecuted. Some will hate us. Others will just ignore us. Still others will strongly oppose us or they will find manipulative ways in which to dismiss us and to get rid of us. And some may just disagree with us but will continue to friend us. But if you are sharing the truth and not the lies you won’t be popular and you will face opposition and rejection.

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.

Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.

Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.

Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.
