I have a loan that I have deferred multiple times and the principle has increased each time. I'm having to defer again as I am still out of work. I have been out of work for about five years due to mental health reasons and have made no progress at finding a job. In part that is because I have no car, but I digress.
Does anyone know how to apply for student loan forgiveness ?

I don't.

Maybe this site can help you?

Student Loan Forgiveness (and Other Ways the Government Can Help You Repay Your Loans)

You can always search the internet. May the Lord help you find the answer you seek.

Thank you. It might help. I have searched the web. Haven't found much
You can always pray about it.

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I came across information on the internet that those on social security can also somehow collect Social Security Disabilities or SSI.

Also, it is possible for someone to start collecting social security earlier before the retirement age.

Makes me wonder if you are only collecting SSI, if somehow you can start collecting your social security earlier in reverse and use that to start paying off your loan. I honestly do not know.

There is an information center for veterans at the AARP but I do not see why they cannot help answer your question if you are not a veteran. However, if they are a stickler for that, hopefully you can ask a veteran you know to ask for you.

Then there is that charity route where you pick a spot on a street or outside a church asking for donations to pay off your student loans, providing you are not at a place where solicitation is not allowed.

I have heard of rich people disguising themselves as homeless to see who would give to the poor in giving back a reward sometimes, and nobody seems to cry foul. Maybe you can find out some of their names on the internet and ask them by mail directly. If they are dubious, you can always give information regarding your student loan where they can pay it off directly if they suspect you would use the money for something else for why they are not giving.

Other than that, I am out of ideas. So pray about it. Do know that the Father can forgive debts as we are to forgive others of their debts to us, including "thefts" if that helps spiritually in that regards in forgiving others. I know I need the Father's help to forgive others of their trespasses, especially when they are not sorry about it nor plan on stopping any time soon.

I'll be sending a prayer up for you too that the Lord will provide for you or mayhap help you figure a way to start paying off your loan with what you have somehow. Like.. look for ways to get free groceries from local charities and use that money that you would have paid for groceries to start paying off your loan. Just a thought.
