A Grand Junction High School student is dropping out of choir rather than sing an Islamic song he says goes against his strong Christian beliefs.

The song is "Zikr," and was written by internationally acclaimed composer A.R. Rahman. Rahman won an Oscar and a Grammy for his songs in Slum Dog Millionaire. "Zikr" was written for a 2005 movie about an Indian independence leader. The song contains the phrase "There is no other truth but Allah."

It's that phrase to which senior James Harper objects.

"This is worshipping another God" and prohibited by the Bible, Harper says.

But Imam Abdur-Rahim Ali, from the Northeast Denver Islamic Center says "Allah translated into English is only saying 'the God, one God.'" He says the student is misunderstanding the language.

"I think it's a lack of knowledge," he says. "There's some ignorance on his part concerning the name Allah. It's the same God that Jesus prayed to, Moses prayed to, Mohammed prayed to."

In truth, the ignorance is on the part of Imam Ali, or he is seeking to deceive. As a teacher of Islam, he surely is aware that the Qur'an explicitly teaches (as just one example), "They do blaspheme who say: Allah is one of three in a Trinity: for there is no god except One Allah. If they desist not from their word (of blasphemy), verily a grievous penalty will befall the blasphemers among them." Quran (5:73).]

This is an example of two real world facts. First is that Muslims are aggressive and anything not matter if it's a lie or taking our schools down the rosey road of Islam they will do anything to make headway to overturn "the great satan" which is the USA as muslims say.

The other point is this young man is showing his faith is far more than just words. Someday we all may be faced with even harder choices. Islam is the religion of satan and is evil, just read the Qu'ran and you will be so shocked.:secret:

Either Imam is very ignorant to the
teachings of Islam, or Imam is trying
to deceive the public by making it seem as if
the student overreacted, trying to cover his
own behind. Either way, kudos to the student
standing up to his faith.

United States has freedom of religion. The student was correct in standing up for his rights in this situation. You should always stand up for what you believe in, and even fight for it in some situations. It's something that we all must do throughout life, and not even just with faith. Don't let things walk all over you.

As for the comments about Imam, the guy isn't ignorant. He follows a different faith than we do yes, but he knows the details obviously. Allah in the Qu'ran is believed to be the exact same God spoken of in our bible. We don't believe this, but Muslims following the Qu'ran do. This included Imam, he is correct in that certain sense. I wouldn't call him a deceiver either. He is doing the exact same thing we do, believing in something he trusts in and was taught. If anything, Imam is the victim being the one who is deceived.

As for farouts reply, not all Muslims are like that. The Muslims you read about online or see on the news are aggressive because they have been taught wrong. Most Muslims are actually peaceful, and not much different from Christians when it comes to personality. I also haven't heard a Muslim call the USA "great satan" before. I have heard terrorists and religious extremists say bad things about the USA though.

Anyway, the real important part is only the fact the kid had the guts to stand up for his rights and what he believed in. Everyone should see that, and take from it.
