Surviving the end times - what do I need to know?
gotquestions.org

Oftentimes, people experience anxiety when they think about the future; however, it does not have to be that way. For those who know God, thoughts concerning the future bring about eagerness and comfort. As an example, describing a woman who knows and trusts God, Proverbs 31:25 says, “She smiles at the future.”

The two key thoughts to keep in mind about the future are, first, God is sovereign and in control over everything. He knows the future and absolutely controls what will happen. The Bible says, “Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, ‘My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’ . . . Truly I have spoken; truly I will bring it to pass. I have planned it, surely I will do it” (Isaiah 46:9–11, emphasis added).

The second thing to remember about the future is that the Bible outlines in specific details exactly what will occur in what Scripture calls “the end times” or “latter days.” Because the Bible is God’s revelation to humankind, and because God knows and controls the future (as Isaiah says above), then it stands to reason that when the Bible speaks about what will occur in the future, we can believe it. Concerning predictions about the future, the Bible says, “No prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God" (2 Peter 1:21). This truth is made evident by the fact that, unlike supposed prophecies made in other religions or by individuals (e.g., Nostradamus) who said they could predict the future that did not come true, the Bible has never once been wrong – every time the Bible has predicted a future event, it happened exactly as Scripture said it would.

When considering how to understand and survive in the end times, three key questions need to be answered:
1. How should I interpret what the Bible says about the future (biblical prophecy)?
2. What does the Bible say will happen in the end times?
3. How should what the Bible says about the future affect the way I live today?

How to Interpret Biblical Prophecy
There are a number of opinions and viewpoints that surround what interpretative methods students of the Bible should use when reading passages in Scripture that concern the end times. While there are good people espousing different beliefs, there is good evidence to believe that biblical prophecy should be interpreted (1) literally, (2) with a futurist view, and (3) in what is called a “premillennial” manner. With respect to a literal interpretation, it should be understood that there are some 300 prophecies that concern the first coming of Christ, all of which were literally fulfilled. The predictions surrounding the Messiah’s birth, life, betrayal, death and resurrection were not fulfilled allegorically or in a spiritual manner. Jesus literally was born in Bethlehem, performed miracles, was betrayed by a close friend for 30 pieces of silver, was pierced in His hands and feet, died with thieves, was buried in a rich man’s tomb, and was resurrected three days after His death. All of these prophecies were predicted hundreds and thousands of years before Jesus was born and were literally fulfilled. And while, indeed, there is symbolism used in various prophecies (e.g., dragons, horsemen, etc.), all of it portrays literal beings or events, in much the same way that Jesus is spoken of as a lion and a lamb.

Regarding a futurist view, the Bible clearly states that prophetic books like Daniel and Revelation contain not only renditions of past, historical events, but also things that will happen in the future. When John was given his commands for the churches of his day, he then received his visions concerning the futuristic things that would occur in the end times and was told, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things” (Revelation 4:1, emphasis added).

But perhaps even a stronger argument for a futurist view revolves around the promises God made to Abraham (cf. Genesis 12 & 15) concerning the land of Israel. Since God’s covenant with Abraham was unconditional, and His promises have not yet been fulfilled to the Israeli people, then a futurist view of Israel and the prophecies surrounding the people of Israel’s return and possession of Palestine must occur.

Lastly, with respect to prophecy being interpreted in a “premillennial” manner, this means that Jesus Christ will return and then reign over the earth for 1,000 years in a perfect rule. Five times in Revelation 20, the Scripture says that Jesus will return first and then reign for 1,000 years (hence the name “pre-,“ indicating “before,” and “millennial,” which means “1,000”). There is no reason to take what Scripture says in any other way except that Jesus will first return and then begin a 1,000-year rule over the earth.

But what does the Bible say will happen before then?

What Does the Bible say will happen in the End Times?
Sadly, the Bible predicts a downward spiral of catastrophes, human sin, and religious apostasy before Christ returns. Paul writes, “But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. . . . evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived” (2 Timothy 3:1, 13). The world will continue to reject God, His Word, and His people.

Some day in the future – a day no one knows – God will end the Church age which began in the first century on Pentecost (cf. Acts 2) with an event known as the Rapture. This will be when God removes all believers in Christ from the earth in preparation for His final judgments. Of the Rapture, Paul says, “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.” (1 Thessalonians 4:14–18).

The erosion of peace and increase of turmoil that precedes the Rapture will reach epic proportions when untold numbers of people disappear from earth. Such a vacuum will cause panic and scream for a strong leader who will have answers to all the world’s questions and problems. The setting of the stage for this leader has been in progress for some time, as historian Arnold Toynbee has noted: “By forcing on mankind more and more lethal weapons, and at the same time making the world more and more interdependent economically, technology has brought mankind to such a degree of distress that we are ripe for the deifying of any new Caesar who might succeed in giving the world unity and peace.” Out of a revived Roman Empire, one that is organized in a European ten-constituency fashion (cf. Daniel 7:24; Revelation 13:1), the Antichrist will arise and sign a covenant with the nation of Israel, which will officially begin God’s prophetic seven-year countdown to Christ’s second coming (cf. Daniel 9:27).

For three and a half years, the Antichrist will reign over the earth with a false peace being promised, but a peace that is nothing but a trap for the people of the earth as the Bible says: “While they are saying, ‘Peace and safety!’ then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape” (1 Thessalonians 5:3). Wars, earthquakes, famines, and more will escalate (cf. Matthew 24:7) until the end Antichrist’s 3.5-year reign, when he will enter a rebuilt temple in Jerusalem and proclaim himself to be God and demand worship (cf. 2 Thessalonians 2:4; Matthew 24: 15). It is at that point that the Creator and true God responds to the challenge. For another 3.5 years, a Great Tribulation will occur such as has never before come upon the earth, one which the prophets and Jesus predicted: “For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will. Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short” (Matthew 24:21–22).

Untold loss of life and destruction of the earth will occur during this period. Also, many will come to faith in Christ, yet many will do so at cost of their lives. But God’s sovereign hand will still be in control as the Lord Himself gathers the unbelieving armies of the world together for His collective judgment of them. Of this event, the prophet Joel wrote, “I will gather all the nations And bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there On behalf of My people” (Joel 3:2). John records the battle this way: “And I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon [Satan] and out of the mouth of the beast [the Antichrist] and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs; for they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them together for the war of the great day of God, the Almighty. (‘Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes, so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame.’) And they gathered them together to the place which in Hebrew is called Har-Magedon” (Revelation 16:13–16).

At this point, the Messiah Jesus will return, destroy His enemies, and claim the world, which is rightfully His. John’s revelation describes this glorious event in this manner: “And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, ‘KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.’ Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the birds which fly in mid-heaven, ‘Come, assemble for the great supper of God, so that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them and the flesh of all men, both free men and slaves, and small and great.’ And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone. And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh” (Revelation 19:11–21).

After Christ has defeated all the armies gathered in the valley of Armageddon, He will reign for one thousand years in a perfect rule with His saints and fully restore Israel to her land. At the end of a thousand years, a final judgment of the nations and all remaining mankind will occur, which is then followed with either an eternal state spent with God for those who follow Him or an eternal separation from Him for those who do not (cf. Revelation 20-21).

The above are not speculations or possibilities – they describe exactly and precisely what will take place in the future. Just as all prophecies came true and were fulfilled in Christ’s first coming, there is no reason to believe anything will be different with those that speak of His return to the earth.

Given the truth behind these prophecies, what impact should they have on us now? Peter asks the question in this manner: “Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! ” (2 Peter 3:11–12).

Hmmm... Chad You can do what you want to do. As for me though. I have no intention of going through the Tribulation period. I have no intention of waiting for Jesus to return to the Earth. I'm leaving before it begins. I'm going in the 'Rapture'. Then the tribulation period can begin.

Thanks

Hullo, chad am anew member on tj however have been ecouraged so much about the message of end times and am going to deeply think about that these days and search more in the holy scripture ( mathew 24;29-31)

God bless for the work.

Dan from uganda.

Wow!! I had to copy this and enlarge it. Then I read it three times before I actually caught on to the fact that the author is talking about two events. A pretrib rapture and the coming of the Lord. We believers won't be here during the tribulation period, although there wil be many saved during that time.

I'm sorry I jumped so fast at the start there.:embarasse

The only thing I'm confused about is the mark of the beast.
There's a lot about it in the bible but I'm still confused.

I'm with you Old Man (El Hombre Viejo). I'm not going through the Tribulation either. Jesus isn't going to let His bridegroom be whipped and beaten to pieces before the wedding feast. Now what happens to Christians DURING the Tribulation is a whole other story but it will be like what happened to the early Church. And LOL@ the self righteous Christians talking about how they are going to fight the antichrist because they are Christian Rambos. Its such foolishness.

And I certainly do not agree that God is in control of everything. Christians make that remark all the time as if its a scripture. If God is in control of everything then why is He making people commit all kinds of evil and violence? Answer: God deosn't control everything. Sure He controls when all this gets "wrapped up" but a lot of Christians talk about God as if He's causing all kinds of things on this planet which is not true. There's plenty that God is not in control of and that's because we are His hands on earth.

Looking at our world today, it appears that its going to be some kind of technology that you will have to put on your forehead or hand. But those doing it also appear to know that by doing it they will be affirming allegiance to or recognizing the offspring of the enemy as some kind of god. But that's going to be instituted during some crazy times. The Tribulation is going to be a bizarre time on earth looking like something out of a science fiction movie. I mean you're going to have Nephilim all over the place mixing with the human race and the whole "UFO phenomena" appears as if it will be out in the open fooling people into thinking that they are from another planet. The events of the Tribulation are bit more complicated that many realize. It will be like in the days of Noah. And the Bible tells us we had Nephilim running around in those days.

I know that end times is something that gets thrown around a lot. But there are a few things that contribute to the discussion. Contrary to popular belief the "antichrist" does not appear in Revelation. Indeed it only appears in 1 and 2 John. (not John chapters 1 and 2). More interestingly is that the word appears in the plural, antichrists. The indication from 1 and 2 John is that the antichrists are not a future even, but a present one. Also 1 John defines the antichrist not as someone who is the polar opposite of Jesus, but as one who denies Jesus. So the 'anti-christ' isn't necessarilly someone heralding end times, but people who are actively denying christ today.

Also the idea for the rapture doesn't come from Revelation either, that's actually from Pauline literature and the relationship between the description of events in Revelation doesn't have the same basic eschatology as that of Paul.

Just some food for though.

Discussion about the "end times" or "Tribulation" has never been confined to just the Book of Revelation. The antichrist has also been referred to as the Assyrian and the "prince that will come" in other books of the Bible. Many books of the Bible share many details regarding the Tribulation. I mean God reveals that Israel wil be involved in two incredibly prolific wars in which they will be victorious because of God. Most are just familiar with the Gog/Magog War but the war that precedes it is the Psalm 83 war. I agree its a mistake to just look at the Book of Revelation for the "whole picture" of the last days and Tribulation, but the Book of Revelation does provide some pretty remarkable details about it all. I certainly believe that the 4 horseman are riding this planet right now and God commanded them that they CAN NOT hurt the grain, wine and oil. But everything else is fair game.

Yes, and as I said a Johannine eschatology is not the same as a Pauline eschatology. Trying to make to two mesh just doesnt work.

Well...no it hasn't. The term antichrist is unique Johannine language with a specific Johannine agenda. You cannot ignore the plural of the word in the text to make it fit somewhere else. The use of the term in 1 and 2 John is not 'end-times' language. It is commentary on the present. It is not predicting the future.

Many books of the Bible share many details regarding the Tribulation.
Yes, but also a resounding no. Paul's New Creation motif doesn't exactly fit in with the idea that we all get to go to heaven. The afterlife of the old testament (Sheol) looks nothing like what we understand today.

Many read the book of Revelation in relation to these details and visions, but overlook the clear apocalypticism of the book. The message of Revelation isn't about the 'end of days' but in the apocalypticism of the message itself. Which was my main point. People have lumped all this language together that according to scripture, doesn't make sense when it is put together.

Yeah!! lol And the antichrist is also called 'the beast;la bête;la bestia; a besta; das Tier; Без перевода;野獸 ; Het Beest and he's mean and nasty right clear through....

Case in point...mixing two distinctly different terms.

The only thing I'm confused about is the mark of the beast.
There's a lot about it in the bible but I'm still confused.

I also think it's some kind of microchip that will be used in the future. I think money will be totally gone. Maybe it will be kinda like a credit card and you won't be able to buy anything without it. So people will be forced to use this chip in order to survive.

Well...yeeeessss. That's a possibility. What I think is far more likely is that it's a name.

First century people like to change names into numbers. For example there is some grafitti at Pompeii that reads "philo es anthmos phi mu epsilon" In english that means I love her whose number is 545.

It was a common trend to convert names into numbers. If we look at 666 we have Neron (A common name for Nero.) On that same note some manuscripts actually say 616, which translates directly as Nero.

This matches the apocalypticism we see in Revelation. Apocalypticism is used when a community is in persecution. For those who know history you'll know Nero blamed the great fires of Rome on the Christians. It would seem to match. The apocalypticism of the letter, the known history of the area, the relationship between the two, and known 1st century practices present themselves as a strong case for Nero.

I know it shouldn't scare me, but it does.....

Howdy The Robster!

I believe that you are right when you say...
The Robster-- that its going to be some kind of technology."

If I may, I would like to show you something here in the Book of Revelation. If you would please, Open your Bible to Revelation 16:10-11. The Bible says...

Revelation 16:10-11

10. And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain.
11. And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

Now, regarding The Mark of the Beast, Many people have tried to figure out exactly what this mark is. But, I am with you on your point and I will share with you why.

When the fifth angel pours out his vial, The 8th Kingdom becomes full of darkness. Now, A Medically known fact is darkness does not cause pain or sores.

Unless, You have a condition where someone is exposed to darkness with no proper nutrition over a period of time, they could come down with rickets disease which is a Vitamin D deficiency.

And, Vitamin D can be produced by the body with adequate sunlight. But, This situation I have described, I do not think is the case here.

Now, Looking at the Mark of the Beast. Some kind of technology. Yes. And, This is why I lean toward this explanation as a plausible reason.

The Mark of the Beast will be some type of chip that contains the number 666 that is placed under the skin on the right hand or forehead of the recipient. See Revelation 13:16-17.

Now, Once a person with the Mark of the Beast Chip is scanned, all of their information, name, address, bank name and account information, etc, will be displayed on the scan holders hand held screen or stationary screen.

This Mark of the Beast, or chip, will have some type of component that will cause severe pain and sores that do not heal when this component leaks out.

Right now, A component that can do this is a small radioactive chemical that when leaked out of this chip over a short period of time can cause severe pain and sores that do not heal.

What are your thoughts?

God Bless You!

Has anyone not noticed that the Church, the Gospel of Christ, or anything related to the Anointed Church is even mentioned during the Tribulation??

I find it hard to just over look this as a serious student of the Word of God.

We are told we escape the Wrath to come...

Oh, but Satan's Wrath.... scary...

Has anyone noticed that in 3 place's it was God's judgment of the earth, the vials, the trumpet blast, The release of the horse riders that caused the whole world to grieve but yet they repented not. It was not something that Satan was doing??

The Micro ship theory is not bad, but during this collapse of the economic status (Release of the famine horse rider) the mark does not get introduced until 3 1/2 years into the seven defined years of tribulation. That only leaves 3 1/2 years left (Sort Of) to use the Mark and is a response by the false prophet to do what he can to keep Satan's (The AC) people together as they are going though the wrath of God also, and are having a difficult time of it.

I doubt during this time, like time no other a complex system of a Micro chip will be used, and the concept of one world bank is pretty foolish if you study the relationships of the Currency Markets. China, and Russia would never go for something like this..

I would not be to concerned about the end of days..... REally. Even if God left us here, Satan would not stand a chance, as he has no weapon against the Anointed Church. Remember he is like a lion, that has to seek someone to devour, and not everyone can be eaten that easy. It's the praying, anointed Church that holds back sin from taking over,(Mystery of iniquity) The Church stops Satan from doing everything he would like to do, and his gates of Hell can go nowhere while we are still on the planet. The greater one inside us, is far greater than he can ever think of being. So be cheerful, focus on the victory over all demoic powers Jesus has delivered us from, keeping in mind we are more than conquers, because he loves us.

Jesus is Lord.

Howdy Brother Mike!

You have asked a very interesting question. Quite frankly, I do not see the Glorious Church of Jesus Christ in the Tribulation period.

Brother Mike--I find it hard to just over look this as a serious student of the Word of God.
I agree. A Serious Student of the Bible just simply cannot overlook this powerful Truth. You see, The Gospel of the Kingdom is the Gospel that will be preached during the Tribulation Period.

Jesus Christ said so in Matthew 24:14.

Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

The Gospel of the Kingdom is the very Gospel that Jesus Preached when He began His Earthly Ministry. See Matthew 4:17.

And, The Gospel of the Kingdom is also known as the Gospel of Circumcision which God called Peter to preach to the Jewish people, also known as the Seed of Jacob multiplied as the dust of the earth. See Genesis 28:14.

Because, The Gospel of the Kingdom is only preached under the Law of Moses. And, Only the Seed of Jacob multiplied as the dust of the earth and unsaved Gentiles will be allowed to hear this Gospel. See Acts 15:17 and Malachi 4:4-6.

The Gospel of Un-Circumcision that was revealed to the Apostle Paul by Jesus Christ, see Galatians 1:11-12 and Romans 16:25, is not preached during the Tribulation Period. This Gospel is only preached during a specific period of time to the Gentiles. See Acts 15:14 and Ephesians 5:27.

Brother Mike--We are told we escape the Wrath to come...
Yes, We are. Our escape comes as described in Revelation 4:1. And, Immediately following our escape, We stand before Jesus Christ at the BEMA JUDGMENT or also known as the Judgment Seat of Christ as shown in Revelation 4:2-3. See Also Romans 14:10, 2 Corinthians 5:10, and 1 Corinthians 3:11-15.

Brother Mike--Oh, but Satan's Wrath.... scary...
But, Satan's wrath is not the only wrath the people of the Tribulation period will see. They will see the Wrath of the Lamb, The Wrath of God, and the Wrath of Almighty God in this order...

1) The Wrath of the Lamb--Revelation 6:16
2) The Wrath of Satan (devil)--Revelation 12:12
3) The Wrath of God--Revelation 16:1
4) The Wrath of Almighty God--Revelation 19:15

Brother Mike--Has anyone noticed that in 3 place's it was God's judgment of the earth, the vials, the trumpet blast, The release of the horse riders that caused the whole world to grieve but yet they repented not. It was not something that Satan was doing??
Yep!

Brother Mike--The Micro ship theory is not bad, but during this collapse of the economic status (Release of the famine horse rider) the mark does not get introduced until 3 1/2 years into the seven defined years of tribulation.
This is true.

Brother Mike--That only leaves 3 1/2 years left (Sort Of) to use the Mark and is a response by the false prophet to do what he can to keep Satan's (The AC) people together as they are going though the wrath of God also, and are having a difficult time of it.
The Mark of the Beast does not come onto the Scene until after the 8th Kingdom is established. This 8th Kingdom is the Revived Grecian Empire which replaces the 7th Kingdom at the half way point of the Tribulation period and begins in Revelation 13:1.

The 7th Kingdom that begins the Tribulation period is the Revised Roman Empire which begins in Revelation 6:2.

Brother Mike--I doubt during this time, like time no other a complex system of a Micro chip will be used, and the concept of one world bank is pretty foolish if you study the relationships of the Currency Markets. China, and Russia would never go for something like this..
There will be a monetary system in place. But, This monetary system will be most likely cashless because of the Mark of the Beast implants. I cannot say with absolute certainty that credit cards are out because I am not sure of that.

Because, The Mark of the Beast will be used like a credit card.

Brother Mike--I would not be to concerned about the end of days..... REally. Even if God left us here, Satan would not stand a chance, as he has no weapon against the Anointed Church.
No, The Devil has no weapon against us. But, We are not left here because of what God has ordained to occur. The Gospel of the Glorious Church of Jesus Christ cannot be preached during the Tribulation Period.

Brother Mike--Remember he is like a lion, that has to seek someone to devour, and not everyone can be eaten that easy.

Under the Gospel of Un-Circumcision, A believer in Christ walking in the Spirit with the Power of Faith, The Devil cannot touch them. See 1 John 5:18.

Brother Mike--It's the praying, anointed Church that holds back sin from taking over,(Mystery of iniquity) The Church stops Satan from doing everything he would like to do, and his gates of Hell can go nowhere while we are still on the planet.

This is very true.

Brother Mike--The greater one inside us, is far greater than he can ever think of being. So be cheerful, focus on the victory over all demoic powers Jesus has delivered us from, keeping in mind we are more than conquers, because he loves us.

Jesus is Lord.

Amen! I agree!

God Bless You!
