Swearing

i think its advisable to avoid swearing because christians must surround themselves with the kind of things that will help us grow in the knowledge of God's Son in order to be able to live a lifestyle that pleases God. keep in mind that you have to do what you have to do in order to get to where you want to get.

although the Bible makes no mention of anything on this topic (subject to correction), i think we must take heed of little things like this that are capable pulling us further from God... you know what they say, "the devil is in the detail" so pay attention to such little things.
remember, you have to protect your relationship with God in as much as spouses to a marriage have to protect their marriage from intruders and breakage. also, before you do something, think first about the possible consequences and think about how it will benefit you in the long term, i personally dont see how swearing can benefit anyone before God.

i hope this answers your question. God bless you.

hi Brother Agua, let me show you scripture, then you decide. Matt 23:16-23 Jesus took this entire chapter to really!!! fire up the scribes and Pharisees,no other place for so long in Scripture, do we see our Jesus this mad! Please read the entire chapter. In the verse I have wrote here, you see what Jesus thinks of swearing by anything.

Now with this in mind is it ok? Have you noticed something interesting in most swear words? Most of the words used do nothing to help our mind,or that which we are swearing at. If we say or proclaim ourselves to be believers, how does swearing help another?

It was VERY!! tough for me to stop this practice being in the Armed Forces why every other word was a swear word,we did this to sound tough,we also showed how limited we were as people as well. I never heard a swear word bless ourselves or others, usually anger is why the words come out in the first place.

Since our tongue is our rudder in life, when Jesus first found me,he gave me this scripture to slow down my rudder amid ships. lol Meaning to those who do not understand Military talk, think twice before we speak once. And the scripture Holy Spirit gave me to pound in my head, was this one!! Matt 12:36-37!! EVERY CARELESS word??? That got my mouth to close more then open!! LOL Our words have great power, when we realize this,we can become careful how and when to use them. I hope this helps bro! Blessing always to you!

Is it ok for a Chistian to swear or should it be avoided ?

No. We, as Christians, are supposed to be representatives of Christ. Can you imagine Jesus walking around swearing all the time? I can't.

Let me ask you this...when you swear, does the Holy Spirit convict you? If the Holy Spirit lives in your heart, then He will convict you of swearing, because we are to be holy, like God is holy.

We are to imitate Christ and put to death the deeds of our flesh. A good rule of thumb is to always say "What would Jesus do?" in every situation.

I agree.

Thanks Mark. I should spend more time with my mouth closed.

Ta Migdala. Sometimes when we do something often, and we convince ourselves that it's not wrong, the Holy Spirits' voice is drowned by our own and we don't feel the conviction. It doesn't necessarily mean God isn't speaking to us. I fully agree that we should be Holy as our Lord is. Or in the very least try to be.
