I will wait for You, O You his Strength; For God [is] my defense. My God of mercy shall come to meet me; God shall let me see [my desire] on my enemies. Psalm 59:9-10 NKJV
Psalm 59 has a violent edge, as David calls for God to show no mercy to those who attack the innocent and slander God’s name. But then, David pulls back into a more patient posture, awaiting God’s ultimate vindication and triumph.
That shift is essential for Christians facing a world increasingly hostile to the gospel. When we see good being called evil and evil being called good, often our initial thought is to lash out and blast such foolish people with Bible verses or social media vitriol. But as James 1:20 reminds us, our anger doesn’t produce God’s righteousness.
Remember: God sees all of it. His patient heart is to see as many as possible come to repentance in Christ. Until Christ returns and reigns with righteous justice on earth, He may well rescue us from persecution and increasing godlessness—but our call in Christ is to love God first and best and then love others the way He loves us. That requires His patience and acting on His kingdom-increasing objectives.
Prayer: Lord, Your timing is perfect and Your justice is certain. Help me to focus on the mission You’ve given me and to trust You with the outcomes.
