Taking up our Cross?
Jesus said.....
Luke 9:23 And he said to them all If any man will come after me, LET HIM DENY HIMSELF, AND TAKE UP HIS CROSS DAILY, and follow me.
Luke 9:24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
Taking up one's cross is connected to “DENYING” of one's self! Jesus denied himself to follow only what his father's will was for him, which happened to be the cross!
What exactly is our cross anyway, and how can we locate it so we can take it up?
The cross we are supposed to take up is the same cross Jesus was crucified on and died!
Gal 2:20 I AM CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST: nevertheless, I LIVE; YET NOT I, BUT CHRIST LIVETH IN ME: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Denying yourself is denying you are still alive (this is losing your life) and have died on the “CROSS” with Jesus! It is no longer you who is alive, but Christ is living inside you!!!
Have you ever wondered how can a person get eternal life when God is the only one who lives forever?
The reason why all “born again” Christians have eternal life right now is because they died on the cross, and Jesus Christ, who is God and is eternal life, has now become our new life!!!
Not only did we die on the cross with Jesus we were also raised up together with him in his resurrection!!!
Eph 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved
Eph 2:6 And HATH RAISED US UP TOGETHER, AND MADE US SIT TOGETHER IN HEAVENLY PLACES IN CHRIST JESUS:
Col 3:1 IF YE THEN BE RISEN WITH CHRIST, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Col 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Col 3:3 FOR YE ARE DEAD, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Col 3:4 WHEN CHRIST, WHO IS OUR LIFE, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
Very very few Christians actually believe this, and they think someday we will sit in Heavenly places, and get eternal life!!! They have never "DENIED THEM SELF'S" or taken up their cross to follow Jesus!
This is very very easy to believe because......
Because "faith" (believing) is NOT something we conjure up in our head by ourselves! Faith comes from the Word of God who freely gives it to us if we choose to receive it!!!
How can a person experience sitting on the right hand of God in Christ without following Jesus to where he is right now?
Mat 10:38 And HE THAT TAKETH NOT HIS CROSS, AND FOLLOWETH AFTER ME, IS NOT WORTHY OF ME.
