Talking to God - confusion

I'm not sure where to post this - hope this is the right place.

When i talk to God sometimes i get confused. I know that God is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I've heard someone talk about speaking to the Holy Spirit and hearing His person - His voice respond. I think i've heard people talking about hearing the voice of Jesus, or of really knowing the voice of the Father. In your experience, do they have different voices or tones of voices?

When we pray, my understanding is that we enter into the Father's presence first with worship/ devotion and then we can speak. Sometimes, however, i just feel to spontaneously ask God something or share something with God - is this where i share with the Holy Spirit? Because i've been confused - i've wanted to get close to God but haven't wanted to miss anyone out, i've wanted to know God as all three persons, i've wanted to respect God and address Him the right way - sometimes i've sort of felt 'paralysed' by thinking of all these things.

I understand that God is One - a triune God, and so if i speak to the Holy Spirit then God the Father and Jesus will be aware of what i am saying - but what does it mean in terms of communication that we have the Holy Spirit in us and that the Holy Spirit is our Comforter? Am i being really silly about this - does it mean that we talk to the person of the Holy Spirit? I've been doing this and sometimes i feel that i'm being prompted by an inner voice to 'ask God' - by which i've taken to mean God the Father - but some people say its all about a relationship with Jesus.

Sorry if this seems a little childish of me to bring it up - but i really am troubled by this from time to time and i feel that its making me feel awkward in my prayer time.

If anyone could recommend some kind of study steps i can take or books i can read to deepen my understanding i'd be grateful.

Thanks

Rachel

Hi Rachel, here is something else from Gotquestions too:

Question: "Who are we to pray to, the Father, the Son, or the Holy Spirit?"

Answer: Jesus Himself taught us, “This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven…'” (Matthew 6:9). Jesus intercedes on our behalf to the Father (Hebrews 7:25). The Bible teaches that we have access to the Father through Jesus (Ephesians 2:18). Therefore, it seems that we should be praying to the Father, in Jesus’ Name (John 14:13-14). The Bible nowhere mentions praying to the Holy Spirit, but it does mention the Holy Spirit interceding for us (Romans 8:26). Again, the Bible does not command against praying to Jesus or the Holy Spirit. However, I think it is best to pray as the Bible instructs, to the Father in Jesus’ Name, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

*************

Part of my prayer time, is giving thanks to our Father for sending his son to us, so that we might be saved through him.

Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Also giving thanks to our Father, for giving us the gift of the holy spirit. And I also thank Jesus for being so obedient to our Father, that we can now receive that precious gift from the Father.

Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

If you are not sure what to pray, the Spirit can help you to pray too.

Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

1Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

God is good always, and there is no darkness in Him, whatsoever. If we pray and ask, He will deliver. If we ask for help, He will always be there for us. So just keep knocking and asking Him to help you and the door will be opened.

Luk 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
Luk 18:2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
Luk 18:3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
Luk 18:4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
Luk 18:5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
Luk 18:6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
Luk 18:7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
Luk 18:8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

God bless you.
