ok I wrote this huge reply on your post right here Heather-Anne and then we had a power-out and I just lost it all now im going to breathe through for a minute . . and then I will try again *argh* hehe. . .cu in a little while

phew. . .hope this is helpful

Hi sweetie

Think about this:

The 10 commandments are not only "rules" they are "offers for a functioning life" "life-offers"

If we accept those in our lives and apply them . . .you will notice how great life can work

The difference to seeing them as life-offers:

They are written by our loving Almighty Father in Heaven, who created by only one thought for us: LOVE

if you abide in Him, He abides in you  if you obey these given commandments, you will find an eternal home, shelter, love, encouragement, guidance and comfort . .. and lots more

You find the 10 Commandments in Exodus 20

Exodus 20

The Ten Commandments

1 And God spoke all these words:
2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

3 "You shall have no other gods before [a] me.

4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand {generations} of those who love me and keep my commandments.

7 "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

13 "You shall not murder.

14 "You shall not commit adultery.

15 "You shall not steal.

16 "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."

or in the contemporary version:

Exodus 20
The Ten Commandments
(Deuteronomy 5.1-21)
1God said to the people of Israel:
2I am the LORD your God, the one who brought you out of Egypt where you were slaves.

3Do not worship any god except me.

4Do not make idols that look like anything in the sky or on earth or in the ocean under the earth. 5Don't bow down and worship idols. I am the LORD your God, and I demand all your love. If you reject me, I will punish your families for three or four generations. 6But if you love me and obey my laws, I will be kind to your families for thousands of generations.

7Do not misuse my name. [a] I am the LORD your God, and I will punish anyone who misuses my name. 8Remember that the Sabbath Day belongs to me. 9You have six days when you can do your work, 10but the seventh day of each week belongs to me, your God. No one is to work on that day--not you, your children, your slaves, your animals, or the foreigners who live in your towns. 11In six days I made the sky, the earth, the oceans, and everything in them, but on the seventh day I rested. That's why I made the Sabbath a special day that belongs to me.

12Respect your father and your mother, and you will live a long time in the land I am giving you.

13Do not murder.

14Be faithful in marriage.

15Do not steal.

16Do not tell lies about others.

17Do not want anything that belongs to someone else. Don't want anyone's house, wife or husband, slaves, oxen, donkeys or anything else.

ok . . now what I thought is really cool about the Bible:

Jesus helped me out in the New Testament where He said what the "Greatest Commandment" is . . .if you obey the "Greatest Commandment" you cant fail to forget one of the 10

its in Matthew 22

The Greatest Commandment

34Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:
36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[c] 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

or again in the contemporary version:

The Most Important Commandment
(Mark 12.28-34; Luke 10.25-28)
34After Jesus had made the Sadducees look foolish, the Pharisees heard about it and got together. 35One of them was an expert in the Jewish Law. So he tried to test Jesus by asking, 36"Teacher, what is the most important commandment in the Law?"
37Jesus answered:

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. 38This is the first and most important commandment. 39The second most important commandment is like this one. And it is, "Love others as much as you love yourself." 40All the Law of Moses and the Books of the Prophets [c] are based on these two commandments.

sooooooooooo . . .

you see. . .

The first 4 of the 10 commandments belong to the first part of the "Greatest Commandment"

=

37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38This is the first and greatest commandment.

and the last 6 of the 10 commandments go to the second part of the "Greatest Commandment"

=

39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.''

Hello peeps

Hi Heather-Anne, Peeps did a wonderful job answering your question. Please feel free to ask more. We are to help each other learn & sometimes us "seasoned" Christians can get a wee bit lazy as to where things are located in the Bible (we shouldn't, but it happens). Your questions help keep us sharp too.

Heather-I know you have a lot to be going on with but if you have time read the gospels from start to finish.Live the life of Jesus with him from growing up,his ministry through to his death. You will then have a heart wide open to recieve the rest of the teachings contained in the bible.(I really love that guy)
