Yesterday was Jerusalem Day - a day in which all Israelis celebrate the anniversary of the unification of Jerusalem in 1967. This is an important moment for this celebration with President Obama calling for Israel to return to the pre-1967 borders and a divided Jerusalem.
In advance of this celebration, the president of the Palestinian Authority, who has already invited the terrorist organization, Hamas, to join the government, met with another terrorist group, Islamic Jihad - a group that calls "Jerusalem, the capital of Palestine."
We must not allow Jerusalem - the historic capital of Israel - to be divided. That is why the ACLJ is taking action. I am in Washington, D.C., working with our legislative team here and the ACLJ's legal team in our Jerusalem office, and continuing to meet with both U.S. and Israeli officials - letting them know of your support - as we prepare a legislative and legal defense of Israel.

These efforts are critical as we prepare for a major showdown at the United Nations where the terrorist-led Palestinian Authority plans to seek unilateral recognition as a sovereign state, including partial control of Jerusalem, without having to recognize Israel's right to exist.
A unified Jerusalem is critical for the safety and security of many of the world's most holy religious sites. As the Israeli Prime Minster correctly noted, only under Israeli control have Christians, Jews, and Muslims been free to visit their most holy religious sites in Jerusalem without the threat of violence. This would not be so under a terrorist-led Palestinian government.
A united Jerusalem is also vitally important to the viability of the State of Israel. If Hamas, which repeatedly calls for the destruction of Israel, were to control half of the Israeli capital, they would be able to unleash deadly terror attacks at will that would threaten the very existence of the Jewish state.
There are new reports that in the two months since Hamas last unleashed deadly rocket attacks against Israel, the terrorist organization has been able to quietly smuggle no less that one rocket a day through Egypt's newly opened borders. Hamas now has a stockpile of 10,000 rockets. Imagine what would happen if the terrorists could not just fire rockets at Jerusalem but were able to fire them from Jerusalem.
This is why it is so crucial that we defend Israel and support a unified Jerusalem. Please join our legal and legislative efforts on behalf of our greatest ally in the Middle East. Your generous tax-deductible gift will provide the resources we need to defend Israel.
