Testimony of Graham Jones
I'd spent so long in a pit of despair searching for a meaning to this life and what it was all about. Months and years passed by with my alcoholic tendencies spiralling out of control, generating a whirlwind of destruction that consumed everything in its path - relationships, family life, work and self-esteem. I battled through self-help books on depression and stress, sought counselling for my alcoholism yet to no avail.
Struggling on, I was confronted one evening by a reading that my mum had left on my bed. On it were the words in bold, 'LIVE OUT YOUR GOD-CREATED IDENTITY' (Matthew 5:48 The Message). For the first time in my life I'd read something that produced a 'feel good' factor inside me and I experienced a sense of hope, love and intimacy. In the midst of all my depression and loneliness these words cut straight through to my heart. I sat there on my bed, embraced these words of comfort and quietly wept, knowing that someone, somewhere new exactly how I was feeling. These words of encouragement began to appear on a more regular basis, thanks to the perseverance of my mum, who copied them for me from a daily devotional called The Word for Today.
From this, I was invited by my mum to three events on Good Friday, 2002. It was this day that was to change me forever! That evening I had the glorious revelation of the saving grace of my Saviour, Jesus Christ. I gladly gave my life to Him through a prayer I read from Journey into Life by Norman Warren and now He is with me always!
Later that year I was set free from the grip of alcoholism thanks to my faithful Saviour. My life now has been richly blessed and God has answered many prayers including leading me to UCB where I work as a graphic designer. I never thought my life would ever change, but it did - through believing in Jesus Christ! I give thanks to my Lord and also to the life changing ministry God has entrusted to those who work at UCB.
