Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. You must warn each other every day, while it is still "today," so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. Hebrews 3:12-14
The writer of Hebrews laid out a clear battle plan when it came to retaining a strong belief and trust in God. What was His plan? Keep your mind from all kinds of deception, and do everything to keep your heart from being hardened. Keep in contact with other Christians who feel comfortable pointing out any red flags in your behavior.
It's easy to get defensive when someone points out your flaws. No man likes to think he's failing. But you're asked to accept such candid observations from other Christians.
Trust is something God requires of you. He wants you to finish your journey well. Christ-following companions can help you stay focused on the finish line.
Prayer: Lord, it's a gift to find a Christian friend who can see failings in my life that I've missed and love me enough to point them out. Remind me why trusting Your rebukes through godly friends is wiser than trusting the praise of fools.
