Thanking God Before Every Meal?

I always wondered why everyone does this. It seems like half the people that do do this just say it like it's a ritual. Just memorized words that they recite. Don't get me wrong I think it's great and everybody who is a christian should do this, but why not thank God for everything. Why is it that it sees like we absolutely have to thank him before every meal?:baffle:

Blessings in the Lord Jesus;
Even upon thanking the Lord before one consumes the feast they bought, and prepared, and sit down to eat; One still is not truly thankful for it.
Until one has been brought to the point they can not buy it, preparing it comes over an open fire (not convenient as a stove); So what one even gets to prepare is few and far between; one does not understand thankfulness for the food in which they are about to receive. One, who has done without, maybe for many days, is humbled and has great gratitude and thankfulness to God for it. They become aware of the blessings in which the Lord has bestowed upon them, receiving it with true thanksgiving in your heart, and very grateful for the Lord blessed them with it; For they could not buy it for themselves.

We expect it to always be there and to always have a way to conveniently prepare it.
We depend on jobs and money to provide for us; not God.
The Word tells us to trust and depend upon Him for ALL THINGS; And, we do it not. The Lord knows what we have need of.
Even the ones that "believe" and claim to know Him; they do not. They are doing it for themselves, and saying God blessed me. No, you blessed you.
When God blesses us, He hands it to us freely; It doesn't cost us money, but obedience to His Word. Amen.
All praise, honor, and glory be to God. Amen.

This is not really a matter of right or wrong or should we or shouldn't we. The Spirit says give thanks in all things. Eph 5:20, 1 Thess 5:18. But we must give thanks in the right way. We can be like this only if we have a thankful heart. To get a thankful heart we need to have the heart of Christ. To have the heart of Christ we need to turn to our spirit and experience the Holy Spirit who is Christ in us. Whatever we do must be in the Spirit, in Christ. Remembering and getting in the habit to give thanks at every meal is a good way to bring us into the Spirit. Sometimes I haven't prayed all day and turned away from God but a simple prayer of thanks will remind me to pray again. So I think even the recitals and repetitions have some value even if it is mere ritual and tradition. If we turn to the Spirit even a simple prayer of tradition can become a heartfelt touch of God. Whatever God touches he makes it alive.

Dear NB408,

If you feel led by the Holy Spirit to pray before every meal, then do it; otherwise, have peace because it's not required.

I don't pray before every meal and I won't have hell to pay! :cute-animated:

Looking inside to make yourself more righteous, always makes the christian happier, than looking on the outside of others.

Blessings;

Many will find the wide open road; FEW there will be that find the straight and narrow.
As James said, "Giving thanks in all things". Appears to be a requirement.
When Jesus is ALIVE in your heart; It becomes a way of life, because He is life; not a mere ritual or tradition.
Sincere gratitude coming from the heart is more then the words you speak with your mouth.
When one is sincere about their thankfulness; not only do you touch God, but you can feel God touching you. Amen.
All praise, honor, and glory be to God. Amen.
