In the moment, I think that was a principled human reaction to the stories that he had heard that day.

But, no, as you have heard from Secretary Blinken and others, the U.S. does not have a policy of regime change in Russia, full stop

Ok. Then I'll offer my opinion too. Overall, his speech to NATO was very well judged and balanced - helpful in bringing nations together in unified action to contain Russia's aggression.

The unscripted "Putin cannot be allowed to stay in power" was not well-judged, but I'm sure it's a sentiment that resonated with the leaders of all the nations in NATO.

You have to remember that the leadership in the US is not like those in the UK or other countries. I used to love to watch when the PM in the UK used to have to answer questions tossed at him by the opposing party, and he'd open a big book in front of him to find out exactly the topic and to jog his/or their memory on a particular topic!!! They are really quick on their feet, and I admire them for that alone. I used to wonder how US Presidents would respond if they had to do that same thing!!! LOL
