It's a double edged sword.
On one hand we have enforcement of the United States laws against piracy and copyright infringement. Which will make stealing and hijacking digital media and ideas extremely difficult in the close future.
On the other hand some US companies are going to take a large hit (like google). Which means the economy will take another hit. Not all companies will take a hit, some will actually thrive. Companies that produce the currently widely pirated material will make even more money. The music and movie industry will thrive. Search engines, uploading sites, and more will decline.
This bill also provides the government with A LOT of power over the internet, which could possibly lead to much more somewhere down the line.
The unbiased person cannot take a side to support or to not support this bill. This bill is actually VERY serious, and could include a very large amount of changes to how we currently use and browse the internet. Even to the people who don't even pirate digital media.
Will it affect Christian themed sites?
It will affect them, but very little. It really depends on what the domain these site operate off of are like. If the domains are okay, then the Christian site will be okay. This is of course if that site doesn't support piracy and copyright infringement with actions, or doesn't enforce the laws. I actually haven't seen any site of this genre to do any of these things, so they should be fine (this includes
www.talkjesus.com).
What is my opinion on the bill?
My opinion is very simple:
I do not support piracy or copyright infringement, or even "scams". I do however support human rights and freedom. I support jobs and a thriving economy. I support having a choice or an option. I believe that this bill is too extreme of an action against its target that affects all of us in positive ways, but more negative ways than positive. There is more that can and should be done in other areas, a bill like this should be a last resort.
